Hello engine lovers, today I will tell you about my experience on changing the alternator belt and the compressor and hydraulic pump, in a small car, which has little space between the engine and its other parts can be a real nightmare, especially for me that my arms and hands are very large and I can not easily reach the most distant places, and what for others is a job of 1 hour, it takes me 2 and even more hours.
Saludos amigos amantes de los motores, hoy les contare sobre mi experiencia sobre el cambio de la correa del alternador y la del compresor y bomba hidráulica, en un carro pequeños, que cuenta con poco espacio, entre el motor y sus demás partes puede resultar una verdadera pesadilla, especialmente para mi que mis brazos y manos son muy grandes y no puedo alcanzar con facilidad los lugares mas distantes, y lo que para otros es un trabajo de 1 hora, a mi me toma 2 y hasta más horas.
The reason is because I have to disassemble and remove other parts, which is not really necessary, is to be able to enter my arm, however, usually when I have these cases I ask for help from a friend who has thinner arms and hands, or my older nephew helps me, because I have time to teach him what is mechanical and he likes to do it very much.
La razón es porque debo desarmas y retirar otras partes, que realmente no es necesario hacerlo, es para poder ingresar mi brazo, sin embargo, usualmente cuando tengo estos casos pido ayuda algún amigo que sus brazos y manos sean más delgados, o mi sobrino mayor me ayuda, porque tengo tiempo enseñándole lo que se dé mecánica y le gusta mucho hacerlo.
Why change the alternator belt?
The main and most correct reason is because they have a life time, and since the vehicle leaves the factory, depending on the brand, at a certain number of kilometers or miles traveled, the belts must be replaced. In American vehicles such as Chevrolet and Ford, these belts are changed between 50,000 and 100,000 kilometers, while in most Asian vehicles they can be changed up to 200,000 kilometers.
Consulting with the former owner of the vehicle, who bought it new from the factory, she had never changed the belts before, both are the original ones from the factory, for that reason I decided to make the change, because the vehicle already has 223 thousand kilometers, and if the belt breaks when I am using the car, it can be a real problem.
La principal razón y la más correcta, es porque tienen un tiempo de vida, y desde que el vehículo sale de fábrica, dependiendo de la marca, a cierta cantidad de kilómetros o millas recorridas, se deben reemplazar las correas. En vehículos americanos como Chevrolet y Ford, estas correas se cambian entre los 50 mil a 100 mil kilómetros, en cambio en la mayoría de los vehículos asiáticos se pueden cambiar hasta los 200 mil kilómetros.
Consultando con la antigua dueña del vehículo, quien lo compro nuevo de fábrica, nunca antes había cambiado las correas, ambas son las originales de fábrica, por esa razón decidí hacer el cambio, porque el vehículo ya tiene 223 mil kilómetros, y su la correa se llega a romper cuando este utilizando el carro, puede ser un verdadero problema.
Procedure
I made the change in my Chery S18, and as I told you at the beginning, because of the thickness of my arms and hands, I must remove other parts to reach the straps, the first thing I must remove is the left headlight, to have a better view and more space when introducing my arms, and avoids any blow that may suffer.
El cambio lo hice en mi Chery S18, y como les conté en un principio, por lo grueso de mis brazos y manos, debo retirar otras piezas para poder alcanzar las correas, lo primero que debo retirar es el faro delantero izquierdo, para tener una mejor visión y mas espacio a la hora de introducir mis brazos, además de evita cualquier golpe que pueda sufrir.
However, even removing the headlight is not enough space to work comfortably, even the power steering hoses, and the fuel lines coming from the fuel pump, interfere a little access, so I must work on both the top and bottom.
Sin embargo, aun retirando el faro no es suficiente el espacio para poder trabajar con comodidad, aun las mangueras de la dirección hidráulica, y las líneas de combustible que vienen desde la bomba de gasolina, interfieren un poco el acceso, así que debo trabajar tanto en la parte superior como la inferior.
In the upper part it is only necessary to loosen the screw of the alternator tensioner, the access is limited as I told you, so I must be very patient, because every movement I can make with the wrench to loosen the screw is very short, however, in the lower part is not so much the problem, I only have to lift the vehicle enough to reach the alternator from below, and I only have to loosen the screw that serves as a pivot and holds it to the engine, with that is enough to remove the belt.
En la parte superior solo es necesario desajustar el tornillo del tensor del alternador, el acceso es limitado como les conté, así que debo tener mucha paciencia, porque cada movimiento que puedo hacer con la llave para desajusta el tornillo es muy corto., sin embargo, en la parte inferior no es tanto el problema, solo debo levantar el vehículo lo suficiente para poder alcanzar el alternado por debajo, y solo debo desajustar el tornillo que sirve de pivote y lo sujeta al motor, con eso es suficiente para sacar la correa.
But in order to remove it, first you have to remove the belt from the hydraulic pump and air conditioning compressor, and to do so also the space is quite limited, so first I must remove the coolant container to have more space.
Pero para poder sacarla, primero hay que sacar la correa de la bomba hidráulica y compresor de aire acondicionado, y para hacerlo también el espacio es bastante limitado, por eso primero debo retirar el envase del refrigerante para tener más espacio.
Once removed the container, I have better access to the tensioner of the hydraulic pump, before I must loosen two screws that serves as a pivot, and that will move to undo the tensioner, however, I imagine that for the years that passed since it left the factory, did not yield completely, then I was forced to remove the pulley of the hydraulic pump to remove the belt without problems.
Una vez retirado el envase, tengo mejor acceso al tensor de la bomba hidráulica, antes debo aflojar dos tornillos que sirve de pivote, y con eso se moverá al desajustar el tensor, sin embargo, imagino que por los años que pasaron desde que salió de fábrica, no cedía por completo, entonces me vi obligado a quitar la polea de la bomba hidráulica para poder retirar la correa sin problemas.

Once the hydraulic pump belt has been removed, it is possible to remove the alternator belt as well, and as you can see it is quite stretched compared to the new one, its code is 4PK684.

I proceeded to place it, but it turned out to be a problem, because it did not fit easily, even if I took the alternator to the final adjustment position, the belt is very small, and in these cases the only thing to do is to place it in position and start the engine for just a second to rotate the crankshaft and the belt can fit completely, but it does not always do it the first time, leaving one or two of the internal guides of the belt outside.
Procedí a colocarla, pero resulto ser un problema, porque no entraba con facilidad, aunque llevara el alternado a la posición final de ajuste, la correa es muy pequeña, y en estos casos lo único que se hacer es colocarla en posición y darle arranque al motor por solo un segundo para que gire el cigüeñal y la correa pueda calzar completamente, pero no siempre lo hace a la primera, quedando una o dos de las guias internas de la correa por fuera.
In the end, with the help of a small lever I put pressure on the belt, and I had to ask my son to start the engine, while I made force until the belt entered completely. In the end after many attempts I was able to achieve it, and was about to completely disassemble the alternator, but with the previous method was not necessary, the important thing is that after mounted, is well adjusted so that in the future does not come out alone, because to perform the procedure again is a real nightmare, what I call, the nightmare of small cars.
Es necesario hacerlo varias veces hasta poder conseguirlo, al final con la ayuda de una pequeña palanca hice presión sobre la correa, y tuve que pedir a mi hijo que le diera arranque al motor, mientras yo hacía fuerza hasta que la correa entrara por completo. Al final después de muchos intentos pude lograrlo, ya estaba a punto de desmontar por completo el alternador, pero con el método anterior no fue necesario, lo importante es que luego de montada, quede bien ajustada para que en un futuro no se salga sola, porque realizar el procedimiento de nuevo es una verdadera pesadilla, lo que yo llamo, la pesadilla de los carros pequeños.

Amigo te entiendo totalmente me sucede a diario mis manos son muy grandes jeje, sabes que tengo un getz y tiene el mismo espacio que tu carro y para cambiar la correa de tiempo debo retirar las poleas de las correas y lleva 4 tornillos a la bomba de agua una total pesadilla jeje, esa marca de corre que compraste es muy buena.
Cuando me pasa como a ti que la correa entra muy justa prefiero girar el motor con la palanca por el damper que darle arranque siento que tengo más control.
