Hola a todos los miembros de la comunidad de Hive Motors, ¿cómo están? Hoy decidí pasarme por acá en razón del nuevo concurso de OCD que se trata de contarles un poco sobre malas experiencias con mecánicos… y vaya que puedo hablar sobre este tema. Si bien es cierto que los mecánicos en ciertas oportunidades son los que te salvan cuando más los necesitas, están los que se encuentran del otro extremo, aquellos que se aprovechan de tu ignorancia para hacerte creer que te están ayudando y en lo que en verdad te ayudan es perder el tiempo, además de dinero, mucho de los dos. Escogí este título para el tema porque uno de mis tíos me dijo un día que los mecánicos muchos eran como unos adivinadores de profesión que no tenían ni idea de la mecánica, lo único que hacen es tirar flechas por todos lados a ver si en algún momento la pegan y dan con la falla que tenga el carro en cuestión, a este tipo de mecánicos en mi país se les llama ‘mecánicos brujos’ coloquialmente, haciendo referencia a esta situación.
Hello to all the members of the Hive Motors community, how are you? Today I decided to stop by here because of the new OCD contest which is about telling you a little bit about bad experiences with mechanics... and I can talk about this topic. While it is true that mechanics are sometimes the ones who save you when you need them the most, there are those who are at the other extreme, those who take advantage of your ignorance to make you think they are helping you and what they are really helping you is wasting your time and money, a lot of both. I chose this title for the topic because one of my uncles told me one day that many mechanics were like professional fortune tellers who had no idea of mechanics, all they do is throw arrows everywhere to see if at some point they hit it and find the problem with the car in question, this type of mechanics in my country are called 'witch mechanics' colloquially, referring to this situation.
Desafortunadamente nosotros caímos en las manos de varios, lo peor del caso es que hasta ahora no hemos podido conseguir uno de confianza que no sea como los demás, aunque seguimos intentando. Todo comenzó cuando el auto de mis padres, luego de un tiempo sin presentar problema alguno después de que lo compraran, presentaba fallas al arrancar, pues una vez se apagaba no quería volver a arrancar sino pasados unos minutos. Llevamos el carro con un mecánico recomendado por amigos de mi mamá, quien lo revisó y nos dijo sin duda alguna que había que cambiarle una pieza, el sensor de posición de cigüeñal, porque era el que estaba presentando la falla por una serie de razones, se mostró muy convencido. Para conseguir esa pieza nos costó porque en la donde vivimos no había así que nos tocó comprársela a una persona de otro estado por medio de una página que no habíamos usado mucho, pero no nos quedaban muchas opciones. La pieza llegó sin el mayor inconveniente, fuimos de nuevo con el mecánico, colocó la pieza, dijo que estaba genial, que ya no tenía la falla… y unas horas luego de salir de su taller, continuábamos teniendo problemas cuando el carro se apagaba, por lo que supimos que seguía teniendo la falla.
Unfortunately we fell into the hands of several, the worst thing is that so far we have not been able to get a reliable one that is not like the others, although we keep trying. It all started when my parents' car, after some time without any problem after they bought it, presented problems when starting, because once it turned off it did not want to start again until after a few minutes. We took the car to a mechanic recommended by friends of my mom, who checked it and told us without a doubt that we had to change a part, the crankshaft position sensor, because it was the one that was presenting the problem for a number of reasons, he was very convinced. To get that part was difficult because there was none in the area where we live, so we had to buy it from a person from another state through a page that we had not used much, but we did not have many options. The part arrived without any major inconvenience, we went back to the mechanic, he put the part in, he said it was great, that the problem was gone... and a few hours after leaving his shop, we continued having problems when the car turned off, so we knew it still had the problem.
Le dije entonces a mi papá que buscáramos a alguien más que lo pudiera revisar y decirnos qué tenía, pero todavía quiso regresar con aquel mecánico, al menos para preguntarle lo que había pasado al carro. Este se mostró sorprendido, dijo que había estado seguro de que esa era la falla, lo revisó de nuevo y nos dijo que podría ser entonces la válvula reguladora de combustible, yo no quería creerle nada pero como siempre ignoran a los jóvenes mis padres hicieron caso omiso. Para conseguir esta pieza fue de igual manera difícil porque tampoco la conseguimos en esta zona, recurrimos por segunda vez a la página por donde habíamos comprado la primera vez. La llevamos con el mecánico para que se la colocara, sin embargo cuando lo hizo nos dimos cuenta que no era la razón de la falla. De igual forma, aprovechamos la oportunidad para pedirle al mecánico que cambiara la correa del alternador por una nueva que teníamos porque era momento de hacerlo, después nos fuimos todavía con la falla en la cabeza, pensando en qué podíamos hacer para quitársela, a quién le llevaríamos el carro.
I then told my dad that we should look for someone else who could check it and tell us what was wrong with it, but he still wanted to go back to that mechanic, at least to ask him what had happened to the car. He was surprised, he said he had been sure that was the problem, he checked it again and told us that it could be the fuel regulator valve, I did not want to believe him but as they always ignore young people my parents ignored him. To get this part was equally difficult because we did not get it in this area either, we resorted for the second time to the page where we had bought the first time. We took it to the mechanic to have it installed, but when he did it, we realized that it was not the reason for the problem. In the same way, we took the opportunity to ask the mechanic to change the alternator belt for a new one that we had because it was time to do it, then we left still with the problem in our heads, thinking about what we could do to remove it, to whom we would take the car.
Un par de días después de eso, nos encontrábamos en el carro haciendo unas compras y escuchamos un ruido extraño, por lo que mi papá se estaciona, y abre el capó para inspeccionar qué había sido, descubriendo entonces que la correa del alternador se había salido de tal manera que la única explicación era que había sido mal colocada… pero hasta el día de hoy el mecánico nunca reconoció esa equivocación, aún después de haber visto con sus propios ojos el estado en el que había quedado la correa. Tampoco se disculpó ni se hizo responsable de ninguna manera. Sin embargo, como nos ayudó para no quedarnos accidentados en el sitio y necesitar del servicio de grúa que de haberlo llamado hubiese sido costoso, no quisimos entrar en discusiones y dejamos que se quedara todo así, pese a que todo fue su culpa en primer lugar por no haber puesto la correa como se supone que debió desde un principio.
A couple of days after that, we were in the car doing some shopping and we heard a strange noise, so my dad parked, and opened the hood to inspect what it was, discovering then that the alternator belt had come off in such a way that the only explanation was that it had been wrongly placed... but to this day the mechanic never acknowledged that mistake, even after having seen with his own eyes the state in which the belt had been left. Nor did he apologize or take responsibility in any way. However, since it helped us not to get stuck on the site and need a towing service that would have been expensive if we had called for it, we didn't want to get into arguments and let everything stay that way, even though it was all his fault in the first place for not having put the belt on as he was supposed to from the beginning.
Como mi papá le comentó que la falla persistía, el mecánico le dijo que podía ser la bovina la que estaba ocasionándola, a estas alturas le insistía a mi papá que no siguiera escuchándolo, pero de todas manera me dijo que probáramos la suerte por última vez y buscara la pieza por la misma página que habíamos usado para comprar las demás, y conseguí a una persona cerca que tenía una en venta. La persona vino hasta nuestra casa y nos sugirió que primero probáramos la pieza en el carro para asegurarnos de que estábamos comprando la correcta —un alma de Dios, porque hoy en día nadie hace eso si significa el perder a un potencial comprador— y una vez montada nos dimos cuenta que tampoco era la razón de la falla, así que estuvimos a punto de que nos hiciera perder aún más dinero comprando piezas que no necesitábamos porque a ese mecánico le dio por estar jugando a las adivinanzas, toda una joya.
As my dad told him that the problem persisted, the mechanic told him that it could be the bovine that was causing it, at this point he insisted to my dad not to listen to him anymore, but anyway he told me to try our luck one last time and look for the part through the same page we had used to buy the others, and I got a person nearby who had one for sale. The person came to our house and suggested that we first try the part in the car to make sure we were buying the right one -a godsend, because nowadays nobody does that if it means losing a potential buyer- and once it was mounted we realized that it was not the reason for the problem either, so we were about to lose even more money buying parts we did not need because that mechanic was playing guessing games, a real gem.
Recuerdo que también nos recomendó que le cambiáramos la válvula IAC pero cuando le llevamos la pieza no funcionó. En un principio pensábamos que habíamos conseguido una que no era para nuestro auto por cuestión de que no había funcionado, ya tiempo después mi papá se puso a revisarla un poco con un primo suyo y sí consiguieron ponérsela al auto y que funcionara con normalidad, así que básicamente el mecánico no supo colocar la pieza. En su momento me molestó mucho porque yo fui quien compró la válvula, pensar que había comprado una equivocada me hizo sentir mal sobre todo porque era dinero que no nos sobraba desperdiciado, me quedé por unos días revisando el número de parte para saber en qué me había equivocado.
I remember that he also recommended us to change the IAC valve but when we took the part to him it did not work. At first we thought that we had gotten one that was not for our car because it had not worked, some time later my dad checked it a little with a cousin of his and they did manage to put it on the car and it worked normally, so basically the mechanic did not know how to fit the part. At the time it bothered me a lot because I was the one who bought the valve, to think that I had bought the wrong one made me feel bad especially because it was money that we had wasted, I stayed for a few days checking the part number to find out where I had made a mistake.
Entiendo que el funcionamiento de los carros es complejo, el número de piezas que los componen y los procesos individuales, que en su conjunto son los encargados de hacer que la magia suceda, no es pequeño, pero es por ello que resulta de suma importancia la figura de los mecánicos con sus conocimientos. Hay un margen de error aceptable por la complejidad, pero por lo menos desde mi punto de vista en este caso fue un exceso que pudo ser evitado a través de la honestidad, de decir que no tenía ni idea de cuál podría ser la falla. Aunque también fuimos en parte culpables por confiar demasiado en esta persona, quizás la inexperiencia jugándonos al máximo en contra, sin embargo debimos haber puesto mayor atención.
I understand that the operation of the cars is complex, the number of parts that compose them and the individual processes, which together are responsible for making the magic happen, is not small, but that is why it is of utmost importance the figure of the mechanics with their knowledge. There is an acceptable margin of error due to the complexity, but at least from my point of view in this case it was an excess that could have been avoided through honesty, to say that I had no idea what the problem could be. Although we were also partly to blame for trusting this person too much, perhaps inexperience played against us to the maximum, however we should have paid more attention.
No todos los mecánicos son así, estoy al tanto de eso, pero se han ganado una mala reputación en los últimos años por culpa de personas como esta de la que les hablo, quienes no son capaces siquiera de asumir sus propios errores. Espero a decir verdad que a todos aquellos mecánicos que aman lo que hacen y saben de su oficio se les reconozca su trabajo y no tengan que pasar un mal rato por equivocaciones ajenas, aunque puedo decir que a raíz de este tipo de situaciones se genera esa desconfianza que los demás mecánicos que vengan en nuestro camino tendrán que soportar, eso sí, desde el respeto siempre.
Not all mechanics are like this, I am aware of that, but they have earned a bad reputation in recent years because of people like this one I am talking about, who are not even capable of assuming their own mistakes. I hope to tell the truth that all those mechanics who love what they do and know their job are recognized for their work and do not have to have a hard time because of other people's mistakes, although I can say that as a result of this type of situation this distrust is generated that other mechanics who come our way will have to endure, but always with respect.

Hola, que mala suerte la que has tenido. No todos somos tira flecha algunos si resolvemos jajaja,todo es cuestión de ética y experiencia lo que pasa es que ahora con youtube muchos creen poder hacer nuestro trabajo.

¡Hola! Sí, sé que no todos son así y por eso me pareció bueno destacarlo, aunque hay muchos tira flechas por allí. Y no, la verdad es que no le hemos resuelto la falla por cuestión de dinero, pero ya la tenemos en la mira y esperamos que pronto esté todo perfecto, sobre todo con lo difícil que fue detectarla. Hola, como dice @soychalbed, no todos somos tira flechas jeje. Muchos clientes caen con este tipo de "mecánicos", ya que buscan la economía y como dice el refrán: "lo barato sale caro".
Un trabajo garantizado y de buena calidad, tiene un costo elevado. Que malo que has pasado por estas malas experiencias.
Totalmente, a veces hay que simplemente pagar un poco más con tal de asegurar un trabajo de calidad. Esperemos que no nos encontremos con más tira flechas, y en dado caso que los sepamos identificar. Gracias por los consejos, saludos.

Hay veces que uno tiene buena suerte y cae en manos de personas honestas, pero hay otros que se aprovechan del no saber de uno y bueno, pasan estas cosas. Pero bueno, una experiencia de la cual pudieron aprender a por lo menos no volver a ese sitio jajaja.
Así mismo... pero queda la experiencia para futuro, por lo menos por esos lados no nos acercamos más nunca. Lo malo es que como ese mecánico hay muchos por acá. Saludos.
