When the car makes a fool of you

in Hive Motors3 years ago

It has been months since I made several repairs to my car, many nightmares, trips with spare parts, between going back and forth to get it fixed so it would be at one hundred percent of its capacity, or at least at 70-80 %.

As you well know, mechanics is something complicated and incomprehensible, an engine, no matter how structured it may be, a part that is failing at the moment, as in my case the module of a coil when changing it, may start to fail the other module that was not failing, it is something normal, engines are like that and there is no concise explanation for that.

My case occurred yesterday, I had been with the car for months without failure at all. Lately, it presented a minimal failure in the first start when it was cold and in the second it started normally, it was just when I poured gasoline that it presented it. Anyway, I did not pay attention and I assumed it was something normal because of the gasoline they were bringing.

In my country, the gasoline they bring is imported, sometimes from Iran and other times from Russia (just imagine), Russia! A country so cold and made with an octane rating so different from ours, which is hot for the most part. Of course, many cars have failures and run with a very poor capacity to what they are used to.

There I was, checking water intakes, oil levels, ready to go out and do my day-to-day duties, I warmed up the car for a few minutes and I said to myself, come on, what can go wrong? What a question, everything!

After a while of going out, I felt the car a little bit without power, after 20 minutes of being on the road the car starts to stall and, oh no, it starts to turn itself off, I decided to put the car in neutral and turn it off and with the force of its impulse I turn to the right to see.

Wow, what a hateful thing to be stranded. I didn't understand what it could be but I was sure that it had something to do with the fuel pump. I let the car rest and I thought about calling someone to help me, it started and did not respond at all, it seemed that the pump was blocked, this seemed strange to me but I did decide to wait and not despair me.

I waited 10 minutes for it to rest, I decided to try to start again and oh, surprise, now the vehicle did start, it was something mega strange but that was not the end of the matter because after 10 minutes the failure returned. My theory that the pump was getting hotter and hotter became more and more true.

So I did until I got home routinely, started, rolled a stretch, turned off, waited, and repeated the process. I called the mechanic to solve this issue definitively, it was something strange that gave me the feeling that the fuel pump was overheating and caused the computer to shut it off due to high temperatures.

The mechanic told me that he was going home right away to make a diagnosis and solve the problem, imagine that I just wanted to go out to do something fast and how my trip ended, but well, at least I was able to drive home.

The first thing he did was to verify injector problems, for this, he uncovered and removed the wires to continue to see the spark plugs, all correct, they were dry and mixing as they should. The first thing was discarded, now he had to check the fuel pump.

As first was to see if it was leaking, for that we proceeded to remove the pump that fortunately is located under the back seat, for that was not much of a problem, we removed some parts, screws, unplug connections and check the condition of the pump. Everything seemed correct, no O-ring where it should not be, and the filter was practically new, it was not dirty or deteriorated.

A bit improvised - but it works.

Well, how strange, I was surprised because as one of the options I thought it was leaking gasoline and that was causing the pump to heat up and shut down for safety. Well, that was not the case, and at this point, my mind only thought that the pump was damaged and I would have to buy a new one, I was already calling a friend to get one and end this problem.

But not so fast, before diagnosing the pump as the failure had to be tested, for this my mechanic chose to place a connection in "T" (or a kind of "Y" is already interpretation Lol) and noting that the pump hose connection went directly to the engine simply connected there, so that was at one end the hose to the engine, in another the hose from the pump and in the middle the pressure gauge with which the pressure would be measured.

55 PSI with vehicle running.

Here I thought, "Sure, now I will rule out the problem once and for sure after 15 minutes of ignition it will be evident that it is failing". Well, after verifying that it was not leaking and that it was under pressure, we started the car. All of a sudden it read 55 PSI, I thought that since when it failed it did not present problems at the beginning it was normal and that after a while of being turned on it would lower the pressure with which it injects gasoline.

Well, to my surprise we were there waiting for 40 minutes and at no time did the pressure drop from the one shown in the photo, this was the last straw. I thought that it could be something that is just rolling so I said to myself, let's give it a ride with the mechanic to see if he can find the fault.

We went out, I was thinking of going around the year to rule out the failure. We got in, and started to the street, I thought in my mind "Well let's go to a straight road so that the car will start more force and if the fuel pump is deficient that presents the fault and discard". For this I went to a road via the airport that is where I live, I accelerated the car up to 130 km / h and drove it for twice as long as it took me to present the fault when I left. At no time did it show any failure I saw it even better than it was.

At the last minute I went back to the house, I paid the mechanic for the diagnosis and revision and I was left with the fact that I had gone even crazier than I already was. The mechanic told me to change the air filter of the vehicle because that could have something to do with the operation of the pump. And of course, it makes sense, being more clogged the car injects more gasoline and therefore forces the pump more. Tomorrow I plan to go out to buy it and wait for what anecdotes (good ones of course) the car will give me this time.

In conclusion, as a lesson he left us

The mechanics are somewhat complicated, and the engines even more, at times we do not understand them but that complication is what makes us passionate about this world, and it is better not to look around because you're going to go crazy. Thank you very much for reading me in this anecdote that usually happens to many people day by day with their cars, and sees you in the next one.
