in Emotions & Feelings2 years ago (edited)

Good morning, friends of Hive. I greet you with much affection and wish with all my heart that each of you are well. In this opportunity, I wish to share with you my perception of what fear is. Although this word sometimes brings to our minds unpleasant sensations, I must admit that at various times when we feel this emotion we are free from many dangers. I hope you can read my publication, which I have made with much affection for you.

I believe that many of us agree that feeling fear is quite unpleasant, especially when it is a fear that becomes so intense that it paralyzes us. However, we should not attack this feeling unscrupulously, since on many occasions fear becomes a brake that prevents us from performing actions that could harm us.

It seems that this feeling is despised by the majority, however, if we analyze its ambiguity we can be enriched by it. Since from my humble point of view, this feeling can be both light and darkness, I will analyze it from both angles. I will start with the fear that is harmful to our lives. This fear is the one that encloses us in a bubble and prevents us from initiating any project, because we are afraid of failure and as this fear becomes stronger if we do not channel it, it ends up cornering us and undermining our freedom.

Obviously, this fear is not welcome in my life, but I have been a victim of it more than once. I remember that many years ago, I had the opportunity to learn to speak in sign language, I must emphasize that I love this language, I feel that if I learn it I can break that barrier that exists between me and a deaf person, for me everything that represents welfare and freedom for others and for me, will always be a good investment.

At that time, I had to pay absolutely nothing for the course I was to receive. I was given a form to fill out and the only requirement was that I was willing to attend wherever the need for an interpreter arose.

I had no problem going anywhere that was close to my home, but the territory of the Deaf is vast and covers the entire country. When I read on the form that I might be asked to move to another city, I was very afraid, at that time I was going through a stage of anxiety that made me see everything as a threat, so I preferred to stay close to my family, because with them I felt protected.

Even though I was going through a difficult time in my life, I was very excited to learn Sign Language, but when I encountered what I described above, I ended up being a victim of fear and returned the empty form. When one of the sponsors saw that I had returned it empty, he asked me why and I mentioned that I was afraid that they would invest time and energy in me and I would not be able to compensate for the beautiful gift they were giving me. With a broken heart I lost that opportunity because of the fear of not fulfilling the expectations of those who were kindly willing to teach me.

Several friends did fill out the form and now they are experts in this language, the nicest thing of all is that they go to many places voluntarily and help deaf people. Being a volunteer in a non-profit educational work, is a very commendable work and when it comes to people with this condition, it must be even more beautiful.

Over the years, I decided to learn on my own and with several friends who had taken the course from the beginning, but I could not. They were already very advanced and I became so overwhelmed because I wanted to learn fast, that I ended up giving up and again feelings of frustration came to me. If I had not fallen prey to fear, I would have been able to learn and even better to have enriching experiences.

On that occasion, I was a coward. It is true that as humans it is normal to feel fear, however, the brave person faces it and ends up overcoming it. Years later, I was able to win the battle against a harmful fear that invaded me.

On another occasion I was invited to travel to a town ten hours away from my home, where a very important educational social work was to be carried out and I was chosen among the guests. I was very happy, but fear was there again, trying to prevent me from doing something I wanted to do. However, at that moment I took courage and with a lot of faith I left. I spent two spectacular months in that faraway town. I look back fondly on my experiences. Back home, I felt that I was no longer a slave to fear.

Although at various times in my life, I have felt harmful fears, it is also necessary to note that I have experienced how in some cases fear has been an effective brake to avoid dangers. I call this type of fear a protective fear. It can be experienced when you can visualize the bad outcome of a situation and you turn away so as not to suffer the consequences. It is a healthy fear that protects you and also helps you protect your family members.

I remember five years ago, I had to undergo surgery, and that in itself is scary. However, the doctor who was going to perform it devised a dishonest plan to operate on me in the hospital. He told me to pretend that I was in severe pain and that I would be taken to the operating room and since he was on call, he would perform the operation.

Friends, I was not in pain at all, I was in the hospital giving air to a man who was almost fainting from screaming so much because of the pain he was in. The truth is that I do not know how to pretend things, when the doctor who was on duty asked about the patient who was waiting in the operating room, I mentioned that it was me. When he saw me, he sent the nurse to take my blood pressure and told me that I was not an emergency.

Amigos, siempre sentiremos temor.

The doctor who was in the operating room waiting for me had asked me to lie, but I was too afraid of that, so I did not agree to pretend to be in severe pain, when the truth is that I felt fine. Therefore, I did not go to the operating room, I needed to be operated on, but not that way. Not by doing things wrong.

Three years later I was able to have the operation, that was the best thing, since the doctor who treated me at that time mentioned to me how difficult the operation had been. After hearing that, I remembered that the doctor who three years ago was asking me to pretend, was going to be alone in the operating room, no other doctor was going to be there, except the anesthesiologist and for my operation four specialists were required. So, it would have been bad for me if I had undergone the surgery with the doctor who was sending me to lie. In this case, fear protected me.

Friends, we will always feel fear. What we must do is identify what kind of fear it is. If it is a harmful one, we must fight against it, but if it is a protective one, let us be obedient and thus avoid unfortunate consequences in our lives. Do not be hasty to think that all fears are bad, many keep us safe and give us the opportunity to live in security.

It is not the best for us to harbor fear as it can cause something else in us. Fear can cut short many things from you.

That's right my friend, fear can make us its slave. However, there are times when it protects us. Hence the importance of knowing how to identify what kind of fear we have and act accordingly to eradicate it or to take preventive measures.

Thank you very much for your appreciation.

Saludos cordiales
