All of us have been surprised at some point in our lives,
even in our daily activities, we used to experience surprises.
The emotion of being caught off guard by something unexpected is termed a surprise.
Surprise it's not only when your friends plan a birthday party without telling you.
Surprise can occasionally occur when you least expect it, and it will feel shocking.
Take for instance, your boss called you at work that you are having a board meeting at a specific time and you should be there on time because he might come late.
You dressed up and you were there before the time.
But you met your boss at the office, this will be a surprise for you. Because you are not expecting to see him.
Can Surprise Be Pleasant or Unpleasant?
Surprise can be either positive or negative, depending on the circumstances and the recipient's response.
Someone may be genuinely shocked and thankful if they unexpectedly receive a meaningful present.
For example, a friend might surprise his best friend with a gift of a laptop. His best friend's laptop might have been damaged and it's affecting his work output.
The recipient of the gift would be so joyous because he was not expecting it at that moment.
This is an example of a positive surprise.
Pleasant surprises can make people feel happy and excited.
Pleasant surprise promotes personal growth. when someone gives you a surprise gift or parcel. You will wonder why you received the gift.
As a result, you'll consider the area of your life that the donor finds meaningful.
You can come to understand what the giver loves about you.
Afterwards, you'll advance further in that area. Your personal development will be boosted by this.
Surprise can be used In marketing and advertising.
Marketers may engage their audience and leave a lasting impact by adopting new or unusual approaches.
If you have a business, for example, you are selling bags.
You might surprise celebrities by giving them some bags.
Some ladies did this on a regular day, rather than the celebrity's birthday.
I could recall that three years ago, one of my former coworkers gave a pair of shoes to a celebrity.
The celebrity was delighted about it. He shared the shoe on social media, which helped my friend's account gain followers.
Because of this surprising strategy, he eventually attracted new clients and sold a large number of shoes.
Unpleasant Surprise
Some surprises can cause distrust or resentment, I will share my recent experience with this.
One of my cousins that lived abroad came back to the country to spend a few weeks. He told me when he was coming and when he arrived, we talked.
He informed me that he intended to surprise his elder brother with his visit to the country.
He didn't tell him that he was already in the country, meanwhile, his brother and I lived in the same area in Lagos.
We used to see each other frequently, but I didn't let him know that his brother had been in the country for the past few weeks.
I picked up my cousin from the airport when he eventually arrived in Lagos. We both immediately headed over to his brother's house.
But unfortunately, when we got there, we couldn't see him. So I called to know when he was coming back and he told me.
So we came back later at night and my cousin carried a lot of gifts along to surprise his brother.
Though the brother was joyous merely looking at his brother, but he was unhappy with me since I was included in the surprise visitation.
Afterwards, my cousin continued, saying that he had been in the nation for more than two weeks and had given me the directive not to inform anyone.
We began appealing and asked for forgiveness because the brother was so furious. He said we should have told him earlier and that he used to believe in me but does not any longer.
Up to this moment, this has caused resentment between us, I have pleaded over and over. But he changed his attitude towards me.
So I must say the surprise went wrong.
This is an example of an unpleasant or negative surprise.
In conclusion, surprise can be a beneficial tool in some situations, but it must be used cautiously and intelligently to prevent any harmful consequences.
Also If you were the type of person who always did surprises, It may stop working over time.
People can develop attachments to the unexpected, which might render the notion of surprise boring or predictable.
