Upside down — Al revés | My entry to the Qurator’s Photo Quest (ENG/SPA)

This photo is my entry in the Qurator’s Photo Quest of this week, the topic is Upside down. The rules of the contest can be read here.

When I read about the topic of this week contest organized by @qurator I was very intrigued and I searched through my photo collection for a picture that would fit into this topic. I found some images but I was not very happy with them, however after some thought I decided for the effect of the “glass of water” and take a new photo.

I took this photo of Moreno Bay, the sea in front of Antofagasta (Chile). You see the inverted image of the mountain, a ship and the sky “inside the glass” and on the top of the water in the glass part of the shore/beach is reflected . This mountain is at the other side of the Bay, called Cerro Moreno.

I decided to use my smartphone (Samsung Galaxy S20) to take this photo instead of my SLR, since it gives more versatility in the sense that it can be controlled by voice. I put the phone on the tripod and hand held the glass of water, doing this with a traditional camera is more complicated.

Con esta foto estoy participando en el concurso fotográfico de esta semana organizado por @qurator, cuyo tema es Upside down, que se traduce como ”Al revés”. Los reglas se encuentran en este enlace.

Cuando me enteré del tema de la competencia (organizada por @quarator) de esta semana quedé bastante intrigado. Busqué en mi colección de fotografías una imagen que se adaptara al tópico. Encontré varias, sin embargo no estaba satisfecho. Luego de un rato pensé en el “viejo truco” del “efecto de la copa de agua”.

Esta fotografía fue tomada en la Bahia Moreno, Antofagasta. Se puede observar la imagen invertida del Cerro Moreno, la montaña ubicada al otro lado de la bahía. Adicionalmente se constata parte del cielo invertido y un buque “dentro de la copa” y algo de la playa que se refleja (invertida) en la superficie del agua de la copa.

Decidí tomar la fotografía con la cámara de mi celular (un Samsung Galaxy S20) en vez de mi SLR, ya que el smartphone, me permite controlarlo con voz, facilitando así la captura de la imagen. Obviamente utilicé un trípode y sostuve la copa con la mano.
