This is a follow-up of: https://hive.blog/hive-102930/@guiltyparties/communities-brainstorming-challenge

Your feedback is now recorded on Gitlab for developer consideration and further discussion. I kept what I could keep verbatim but in some cases I had to slightly modify statements to make them clear. I also took from comments where I could.

This is only Round 1 of communities-focused feedback and more rounds are expected to guide the upcoming development and optimization of the feature.

Feel free to join the discussion in Gitlab or add your idea here in comments if I missed your input or you have new input.

Key points:

  • Additional moderation features and capabilities (muting users out of communities, potentially through the use of the blacklist feature)
  • Chat capability
  • Governance tools (electing moderators, hive-# account with multi-sig capabilities, governance structure within the communities, funding options)
  • Content discovery and sorting (sub-tagging, ordering within communities)
  • Management tools (ability to set beneficiaries, ability to set max payout for posts in community)
  • Statistics
  • Gamification of communities
  • Translator tool

Those are all great ideas. I'm impressed with the Hive :)

Agree with all points. But I think, chat could be the first (and it's already on some Hive dapps...)

CHAT?
What is that?
That's not important on a social platform.
Who would even use such a thing?
You're crazy!

@peakd please ban this person.
Very out of line!

Which dapps are doing it best right now? We are looking into it for peakd and wondering what experience people are liking and actually using

Chat or messenger/messages/whatever you like is already implemented on NFTShowroom, Lency, FarmFarmer, and people discuss a lot, so I don't see a reason why not...

We certainly appreciate this type of initiative and have been reading many of that feedback ... thanks for putting it into one place.

I definitely noticed how many submissions were linked to Peakd, shows how many people depend on you.

I understand, after receiving some information from a very reliable source, that the application program interface (API) issues are not a priority. Would you care to expound on this if you are able?

The API is very important to the applications built on the HIVE Blockchain Network. Quite frankly as a long time user and stake holder that has invested a great deal of my discretionary income, I find this response to a developer who is helping to keep this place (HIVE) afloat obtuse. Maybe you can set me straight.

Whomever told you that is way off the mark. There is constant work going on for both API operation and Hivemind-specific fixes. Those are what the Blocktrades team is working on non-stop. We have a very busy development channel for both of these where anyone who is trying to launch or hook up a node can ask. I personally go around looking for dapp owners and devs to get set up on chat so they get access to the info/support they need.

This communities feedback is in preparation for future development once the current priorities are good to go.

Thank you for your timely response to my query. I have learned to take everything I hear or read on the HIVE Blockchain Network with a grain of salt. I realize that we are all human and frail in various ways. There is an old saying when I was in the Corps:

When you make an assumption, you make an ass out of you and me.

Thanks for setting me straight.

personally... they're blowin smoke and being dousche bags in the background.

Very interesting. Look forward so seeing how things unfold.

This proposed expanded feature set sounds very promising and should go a long way in making comunnities thrive on HIVE.

really great points!

Or just dump the feature, which is just repetitive tagging and build up the tag system. Why have two similar features, when tags are superior for the searches?

Dump Communities, which was just adding a redundant, mainstream system and add the features to tags. This would simplify the code and make navigation easier for new users, while still giving rue existing users the features they want.

So you want to go back to how it was before Communities ever existed?

Not really, just add the community features to tags instead with no owners. You add governance to the tags to choose the president, moderators and official curators. Or something along those lines.

Just as background when I look at where people are spending their time on peakd the data does seem to say communities ... many communities have more people looking at their feeds than people that look at the "all topics" feed or what we some call the "trending page" ... in fact topic pages get way less views in general compared to communities
