Hello to everyone in the Makeup Power community! Today I bring you a new makeup inspired by a great artist, Shirley Manson, who is the lead singer of the band Garbage. I decided to recreate Shirley's aesthetic from the reference image below, where she used a makeup with blue shadows, red lipstick and porcelain skin. The set of all these elements create a look that highlights her eyes and lips, above all, the beauty of the artist. This whole look was used for the filming of the music video for the song 'Milk' by her band, Garbage. So here's how I went about doing the makeup and some of the stumbling blocks I had to get it done. Let's begin!
¡Hola a todos en la comunidad de Makeup Power! El día de hoy les traigo un nuevo maquillaje inspirado en una gran artista, Shirley Manson, quién es la vocalista de la banda Garbage. Decidí recrear la estética de Shirley a partir de la imagen de referencia que dejo aquí abajo, dónde ella utilizó un maquillaje con sombras azules, labial rojo y piel de porcelana. El conjunto de todos esos elementos crean un aspecto que destacan sus ojos y labios, sobre todo, la belleza de la artista. Todo esta apariencia fue utilizada para la grabación del vídeo musical de la canción 'Milk' de su banda, Garbage. Así que aquí les comento como fue el proceso para realizar el maquillaje y algunos tropiezos que tuve para lograrlo ¡Comencemos!
The first thing I did was to cleanse my face with facial soap, cleanse, dry and then use a little cream to moisturize the skin. After that I applied a layer of primer, then plenty of foundation (in the form of a mouse) and concealer for dark circles, switching between large brushes and my fingers so that it adheres better to the skin. In this makeup it is important to apply enough material to be able to look like "porcelain skin", not only because of the complexion (she is white, I am brunette) but also because of the finish of a clean makeup, without lumps, without strong contours. That's what hers looks like, because although it's simple, it's well done.
Lo primero que realice fue la limpieza de mi rostro con jabón facial, limpie, seque y luego utilice un poco de crema para humedecer la piel. Seguido de ello aplique una capa de primer, luego abundante base (en forma de mouse) y corrector de ojeras, intercambiando entre brochas grandes y mis dedos para que se adhiera mejor a la piel. En este maquillaje es importante aplicar bastante material para poder lucir una "piel de porcelana", no solamente por la tez (ella es blanca, yo trigueña) sino por el acabado de un maquillaje limpio, sin grumos, sin contornos fuertes. Así como luce el de ella, ya que aunque es simple, está bien hecho.
The second step I took was to prep my eyes for shadows. Here I added a little more concealer, let it dry and applied black on the eyelid up to the socket but then I noticed that it was too strong (it looked smudged and dull) and didn't bring out the king blue I needed. So I cleaned up, reapplied concealer and tried using only the dark blue and light blue shadows (both shimmery) blending a little at a time up to the tear trough. And that way I got a better result. I also added blue on the lower eyelid. I did not apply eyeliner. Here are both pictures for comparison.
El segundo paso que tome fue el de preparar mis ojos para las sombras. Aquí añadí un poco más de corrector, deje secar y aplique negro en el párpado móvil hasta la cuenca pero luego noté que era demasiado fuerte (Lucia manchado y apagado) y no destacaba el azul rey que necesitaba. Así que limpie, aplique nuevamente corrector y probé haciendo solo uso de las sombras azul oscuro y el azul claro (ambos brillantes) difuminando poco a poco hasta el lagrimal. Y de esa forma obtuve un mejor resultado. También añadí azul en el parpado inferior. No aplique delineador. Les dejo ambas fotografías para que comparen.
The last steps were to apply mascara, eyeliner and paint the eyebrows to make them look "thinner" (in the 90's super thin, thin eyebrows were in fashion. Shirley is from that era and wears her brows that way), I also added a peach blush, sealing powder and red lipstick to finish. Finally, here are the results.
Los últimos pasos fueron aplicar máscara de pestañas, delinear y pintar las cejas para hacerlas lucir más "delgadas" (en los 90's estaban de modas las cejas super delgadas, finas. Shirley es de esa época y lleva las cejas de esa forma), también añadí un rubor color durazno, polvo para sellar y labial rojo para terminar. Finalmente, aquí están los resultados.
I really liked this look because even though it's evening, it's lighthearted and somehow childlike in the way it uses sheer colors that are definitely not worn now. Nowadays you tend to wear a strong shadow on the eyes or lips with intense colors but not both at the same time. That is to say, either the eyes are highlighted or the lips are highlighted because it can look excessive and overloaded makeup. However, personally, for me this makeup works, it looks nice and energetic. It also depends on the occasion and since I used it to record some songs from that band, it was ideal. Me ha gustado mucho este estilo ya que aunque es de noche, es alegre y de alguna forma infantil por la forma en la que se utilizan colores puros y que definitivamente ahora no se llevan. Actualmente se suele llevar una sombra fuerte en los ojos o los labios con colores intensos pero no las dos cosas al mismo tiempo. Es decir, o se destacan los ojos o se destacan los labios ya que puede lucir excesivo y recargado el maquillaje. Sin embargo, en lo personal, para mí funciona este maquillaje, luce agradable y energético. También depende de la ocasión y como yo lo utilice para grabar algunas canciones de esa banda, fue ideal.
