Dilapidated railway. Part one

Once, while studying the map of Vologda, I came across an interesting bend along the entire Zarechye side of the city. I opened panoramic photos of the Yandex service and saw that it was an old railway. I immediately wanted to explore this place.

I cycled to the supposed start of the railway line. But the first time I could not find it.

The railway turned out to be so old that with difficulty I was able to find at least some traces. The sleepers were barely visible from the ground.

A folk trail runs along a branch of the railway from one courtyard to another.

In the 2016 panoramic images, the rails still existed. In four years, the train track disappeared almost completely.

The rails once crossed ordinary streets diagonally. After dismantling the branch, the level crossings were successfully asphalted.

Earlier, apparently, this railway line ran all the way to the river to the industrial zones. Now there is only one line that runs along the outskirts of the city and does not create problems for the city's car traffic.

Five to seven more years will pass and there will be no trace of the branch at all.

All houses and buildings standing nearby were built taking into account the existing railway.

Most likely, the locals still remember the trains passing by the yard.

And now the yard spaces have taken over everything around. Especially the parking lot.

Someone told me that in the last years of the existence of this railway line, training trains traveled along it.

They look like ordinary courtyards, but earlier there was a ghetto of dilapidated housing and the railway was the natural border of residential areas.

The year the construction of this branch began is unknown to me.

Now it is completely lost, but you can still trace its location. Soon this will not happen either.

To be continued...
