Where the boys lived. Hara Bay. Estonia, just up the lane from the sub base.

in Urban Exploration3 years ago

So of course the Soviet Military had a massive presence on the baltic coastline of the beautiful country that is Estonia, whilst part of The USSR, 1945-1991. The coastline was part of the outer border of the Union.

A military township was constructed at Hara, to defend and supply personnel to operate the Submarine base just a half mile away.

That base (to be blogged shortly), is now quite a touristic venue, however what is left of the township base, has either been redeveloped and inhabited or, as in the case of this post, reclaimed by nature.

there wasn't much to see inside either to be honest

There were however rooms full of these flattened boxes, hmmmm seems a bit fishy

i later found out that once the Soviets had withdrawn, a fish canning operation was set up on the area, that too now obviously long gone.

and not much left of the "squat and squit" toilets.

I would like to think that the first two images are what is left of some genuine Soviet murals, the theme is in keeping with the military presence, of submarines

Got to be honest, I love this one, a true love story encapsulated in paint. Such a strange Estonian phrase,"gimme ma bricks", methinks I shall myself use it as a chat up line with the ladies.

SPG_6328.jpeg

through the open door we go, thankfully the sunlight was streaming through the windows other wise i may have found myself swimming in a pool that has long had the plug pulled out

SPG_6329.jpeg

I guess this was some form of recreation club, clambering through the debris and fallen masonry, i got the impression that this was some sort of communal sauna. each wall was fully cladded out with wooden planks, it has to be?

SPG_6330.jpeg

Anyways out through a hole in the wall and i'm back into the midge infested forest. Where i end my journey, surrounded by boats.......

Greetings from Estonia! :)

hey, how are you. I love your country, 3 great weeks on a road trip ( your roads are pretty rubbish though if you get off the main highways!!!)

Im fine, yeah the roads can be awful at places since the country is not that densely populated. Hope you enjoyed your stay.

I loved every minute of my three weeks, thank you

for the tour.

my pleasure, thank you for visiting

I don't feel so bad about posting all my derps now, at least the graffiti has a different style than here.

LOL!
I felt let down by all the former military establishments to be honest, not as interesting as those in the former GDR.
The time capsules, were fucking mind blowing though.
Still wading through 2312 snapshots!!
