“Finding a Discontinued Railway Line in Nova Scotia, Canada”

I heard there was a train in my area before until 1993, Nova Scotia, Canada which was called Dominion Atlantic Railway. I saw the evidence of the train before. For example, there is an old train station which was turned into a library and restaurant. There is a lot of art which shows us to imagine an ancient culture with trains and train stations.

I love to use public transportation to explore new towns. When I was living in Australia, I often explored cities and towns using trains, buses, ferries or subways. I don't mind driving but I prefer to use public transportation sometimes. In my home town of Sapporo, there are buses, trains, subways, and street cars. Those are all useful for our living.

When I heard that there was a railroad in my area in Nova Scotia, Canada, I thought I wish we still had it!! If we had a train, we could go to Halifax easily. There is a bus service in my town here but there is one bus an hour. Most of the people drive cars. If I want to catch the bus, I have to get to the bus stop by car or taxi or something. Hmm... This is a bit disappointing for me.

When I went to the beach near my house with my husband and dog, the tide was in. We couldn't walk much on the beach. We decide to walk around the area. Then, we noticed that there was a strange shaped property. We noticed that there are a railroad tracks on the property and on the road as well. We were happy when we saw it but again, we thought it would be so cool if we had a train next to the ocean. In my hometown, we can ride a train right next to the sea of Japan which is very exciting and cool!

Oh, we see the railroad under the road. They didn’t even take the railroad tracks away!! What construction.

This is one of my favourite underground paths at Maruyama station. There is a zoo near here. That's why there are animals on the tiles.

It always makes me a little sad to see overgrown and long unused rail lines like that. When I visit home I can see them a lot. The US is full of them. We once (100 years ago) had a train network that was like Japan, you could travel the country by rail. But now it's all been torn up and replaced by cars and highways. It's too bad.

Yes, I agree with you. I feel ‘mottainai’ when I see unused rail lines. Many workers and immigrants used a lot of effort to make them... I want to see the train station areas but we don’t have them because people just drive everywhere. I wish we could use this railroad to go somewhere by eco-trains now! I miss the Japanese train system a lot when I see this kind of thing.
