Today marks the celebration of Akwa Ibom day. On 23rd September, 1987 the great state of Akwa Ibom was created. The State which is blessed with several natural resources is often referred to as the Land of Promise.

Akwa Ibom State is located in the southern part of Nigeria and it is among the Niger Delta states because of its oil reserves. Akwa Ibom State happens to be one of the very peaceful states in the country and a good place for tourists.

There are 31 Local Government Areas (LGA) in the state with numerous villages, towns and clans. The capital of Akwa Ibom State is Uyo. More so, following the high number of villages and tribes in Akwa Ibom, the state have many languages including Ibibio, Anang etc.

In terms of development, the state is not lagging behind as it has many good roads, schools and social amenities. The state has the biggest stadium in Nigeria known as the "Nest of Champions." Also to note is that many of the great meals in Nigeria comes from Nigeria e.g Afang, EdikanIkong, Ekpang Nkukwo etc. The state is also known to be the host of the biggest Carol festival in Nigeria.

So far, the state have had 10 governors with Deacon Udom Gabriel Emmanuel being the sitting governor. The state has also produced many great and legendary men in the country.

So, today I join every other Akwa Ibomite to celebrate the blessings of God in Akwa Ibom State. I pray that Akwa Ibom will continue to stay peaceful, development and industrialization will continue to increase.
