Hive Open Mic Week #74
I have told my story many times, in stories, in songs, in poems, all this to make known my roots and what moves me. For some time I have been studying the native culture Wóttüja together with the medicine that grandfather Rufino Pónare offers, the more I go into the jungle the more I know that the fact of being there was directly linked to my destiny, to my mission so to speak, I consider that every little step I take brings me closer to achieve something big, something beautiful, with each step I am meeting people who help me and motivate me to continue, people with the same dream.
He contado mi historia muchísimas veces, en cuentos, en canciones, en poemas, todo esto para dar a conocer mis raíces y aquello que me mueve. Hace un tiempo que estudio la cultura indígena Wóttüja junto a la medicina que el abuelo Rufino Pónare brinda, mientras más me adentre a la selva más conocí que el hecho de estar allí estaba directamente ligado a mi destino, a mi misión por así decirlo, considero que cada pasito que doy me acerca a realizar algo grande, algo bonito, con cada paso me voy encontrando personas que me ayudan y motivan a seguir, personas con el mismo sueño.
The dream/ El sueño
Some time ago I dreamed of helping the town that has motivated me to expand my knowledge of myself, the town that saw me grow up, its name is La Angoleta and it is the town where my family is from my father's side. Coincidentally, it wasn't until a couple of years ago that I was able to begin to focus on this dream through another native town that I mentioned before. The first time I went to the churuata, I felt at home, I felt it was there where I had to start; and so I have been, materializing the tools that give shape to that help, that block by block dreams of becoming a shelter for all those we as a team can be lucky enough to reach.
Hace un tiempo soñé con ayudar al pueblo que me ha motivado a expandir mi conocimiento de mi misma, el pueblito que me vio crecer, su nombre es La Angoleta y es el pueblo de donde es mi familia por parte de papa. Casualmente no fue hasta hace un par de años que pude comenzar a enfocar este sueño por medio de otro pueblito indígena que anteriormente les mencioné. La primera vez que fui a la churuata, me sentí como en casa, sentí que era por allí por donde tenia que comenzar; Así he ido, materializando las herramientas que le dan forma a esa ayuda, que bloque a bloque sueña con convertirse en refugio para todos aquellos a los que podamos como equipo tener la suerte de alcanzar.
These days I have been planning the II edition of the music festival that I started planning the year before last as a team with an old friend who was also taking the message of healing music to his environment, but thanks to the pandemic this event had to be postponed. It wasn't until this year that I resumed organizing it and it managed to take place in March, this time with the help of some other friends. Thanks to the good reception of the people who attended the event, we thought it would be good to rekindle the flame and together with a good friend who has given me the universe, we are back, we want to reunite the family for a good cause.
En estos días he estado planificando la II edición del festival de música que comencé a planificar el año ante pasado en equipo con un viejo amigo que también se encontraba llevando el mensaje de la música de sanación a su entorno, pero gracias a la pandemia este evento tuvo que posponerse. No fue hasta este año que retome su organización y logró tener lugar en marzo, esta vez con ayuda de algunos otros amigos. Gracias al buen recibimiento de las personas que asistieron al evento, volvimos a pensar en que seria bueno volver a avivar la llama y en conjunto con una buena amiga que me ha obsequiado el universo, estamos de vuelta, Queremos volver a reunir a la familia por una buena causa.
Adiwa Fest
For the benefit of the native Wóttüja, Chejerü Productions and La Ventana Terapéutica Radio Online organize a concert of medicine music for the city of Caracas, this concert is intended to help raise funds for the repair of the bridge that connects the indigenous community with the city. This bridge is the main access that the community has to be able to access trade with the city. Also like last time, we will be receiving all kinds of loving donations that people can send (medicine, basic necessities, clothes, shoes, etc).
A beneficio del pueblo indígena Wóttüja, Chejerü Productions y La Ventana Terapéutica Radio Online organizan un concierto de música medicina para la ciudad de caracas, este concierto tiene como objeto por esta vez ayudar a recaudar fondos para la reparación del puente que conecta la comunidad indígena con la ciudad. Este puente es el acceso principal que la comunidad tiene para poder acceder al comercio con la ciudad. Además al igual que la vez anterior, estaremos recibiendo todo tipo de donaciones amorosas que las personas puedan hacerles llegar (Medicina, Artículos de primera necesidad, Ropa, Zapatos, etc).
The Adiwa Fest is a concert that brings together the best music therapists in Venezuela, musicians medicine, musicians who sing with the soul to raise a prayer of healing for the spirit; Yoga instructors who carry the message of restoring our health through the practices that we can adapt to our lives; We will have a bazaar for all those who want to be part of this great celebration; We will receive the support of talented circus performers who will move us to the most beautiful of the tent, among other things.
El Adiwa Fest es un concierto que reúne a los mejores musicoterapeutas de Venezuela, músicos medicina, músicos que cantan con el alma para elevar un rezo de sanación para el espíritu; Instructores de yoga que llevan el mensaje de restablecer nuestra salud gracias a las practicas que podemos ir adaptando a nuestra vida; Tendremos un bazar para todas aquellas personas que quieran formar parte de esta gran celebración; Recibiremos el apoyo de talentosos artistas de circo que nos trasladaran a lo mas bonito de la carpa, entre otras cosas mas.
Edekia
Edekia is the name given in the Piaroa language to the white and pink conch shell used by the shaman as a protection tool. On the day of the ceremony, the grandfather sounds this instrument in the four directions, to raise a prayer of protection that is felt as soon as it happens. Witnessing this phenomenon had such an impact on me that I always wanted to write a song about it. It was not until February of this year, in the middle of a lesson I was receiving from the Wóttüja family, that I received the lyrics and melody of this song while meditating on silence and the consequences of our words.
Edekia es el nombre que recibe en idioma piaroa la caracola blanca con rosada que utiliza el chaman como herramienta de protección. El día de la ceremonia el abuelo suena este instrumento a las cuatro direcciones, para levantar un rezo de protección que se siente apenas sucede. El hecho de presenciar este fenómeno me impacto tanto que quise siempre escribir una canción al respecto. No fue hasta febrero de este año en medio de una lección que estaba recibiendo por parte de la familia Wóttüja, que recibí la letra y la melodía de esta canción mientras meditaba sobre el silencio y las consecuencias de nuestras palabras.
Edekia is an original song that tells of grandfather's nights of work, nights of ceremony that he uses to protect us with his chant. On one occasion after a chanting ceremony for pregnant women I asked him about the meaning of his chant and he answered that in the chant he prayed for water, food and fruits for not only the women present in the churuata or for his family, but that he also sang for all the women of the world. So I have no doubt that my chant is a small translation of what the grandfather as Meñerua does with love, sings for the protection of the whole world.
Edekia es una canción original que relata las noches de trabajo del abuelo, noches de ceremonia que el utiliza para protegernos con su canto. En una ocasión después de una ceremonia de canto para las mujeres embarazadas le pregunte sobre el significado de su canto y el respondió que en el canto el rezaba el agua, la comida y las frutas para no solo las mujeres presentes en la churuata o para su familia, si no que también el cantaba por todas las mujeres del mundo. Así no me queda la menor duda de que mi canto es una pequeña traducción de lo que el abuelo como Meñerua hace con amor, canta para la protección del mundo entero.

Glossary of terms/ Glosario de términos
- Tuipa: Acurewa Tuipa is the liana with which the family prepares to use with the Ñua, this liana is eaten roasted or dried.
- Ñua: Medicine prepared by the shaman, a tool that helps him to heal with his chant.
- Caraña: Medicinal resin extracted from the caraña tree (Bursera graveolens) is used in incense as protection, for pain, topical to heal some wounds, among other ways.
- Meñerua: Level of study of the shaman, path or specialization that he has acquired to heal with the vibration of the chant, Meñe means chant, Meñerua means "owner of the chant".
- Puruna: Wóttüja name for "God".
- Yaguina: Tool made by the shaman for protection, it consists of a Cumare seed (Astrocaryum chambira) that is prepared and filled with Yaguina powder (a magic powder that is sought by the shaman to protect his family).
- Chejerü: Goddess who sowed medicinal plants in the world. Wife of the god Puruna.
- Kuami Kiachi: Word that translates "Strength in the Heart". It speaks of a philosophy of life that refers to not reacting to emotions.
- Tuipa: Acurewa Tuipa es la liana con la que la familia prepara para usar con la Ñua, esta liana se come asada o seca.
- Ñua: Medicina preparada por el chaman, herramienta que le sirve para poder sanar con su canto.
- Caraña: Resina medicinal que extraen del árbolde caraña (Bursera graveolens) se usa en sahumerio como protección, para el dolor, tópico para sanar algunas heridas, entre otras formas.
- Meñerua: Nivel de estudio del chaman, camino o especialización que el ha adquirido para sanar con la vibración del canto, Meñe significa canto, Meñerua significa "dueño del canto".
- Puruna: Nombre que tiene en Wóttüja "Dios".
- Yaguina: Herramienta hecha por el chaman para la protección, esta consiste en una semilla de Cumare(Astrocaryum chambira) que se prepara y se rellena de polvo de Yaguina (un polvo mágico que es buscado por el chaman para proteger a su familia).
- Chejerü: Diosa que sembró las plantas medicinales en el mundo. Esposa del Dios Puruna.
- Kuami Kiachi: Palabra que traduce "Fortaleza en el Corazón". Habla de una filosofía de vida que refiere a no reaccionar ante las emociones.

Conocí un poquito la cultura wotuja, hace unos cuantos años,2007-2008, en tierra blanca, Pendare. Allí iniciamos la primera aldea universitaria de formación intercultural bilingüe, de la UBV. Aunque en esa comunidad particular estaban muy occidentalizada y adoctrinados por iglesias evangélicas, fue una experiencia hermosa aprender de ellos y acompañarlos a redescubrir sus raíces y su propia cultura. Es hermoso y necesario lo que haces. Cuenta con mi humilde apoyo. Bendiciones para tí y tu misión.

La verdad conozco la comunidad bastante poco, se que son Piaroas pero Wóttuja son pocos, los evangélicos vinieron a hacer desastre hace unos cuantos años jejeje, ellos en busca de "una mejor vida" de verdad creyeron que cambiar sus churuatas por casas e iglesias, fue buena idea. En fin... Es complicado. Me encanta el hecho de compartir esto y siempre encontrar personas que han ido y visto las maravillas que existen por allá. Un abrazo y las mejores vibras. Adiwa!
