Hive Open Mic - Highlights
Week 33: November 22-28, 2020
For the week of Thanksgiving, we received a wonderful collection of live music entries. Our theme was "Moonrise," and naturally we achieved an abundance of moon-centered songs. The moon is at its fullest where I'm at in this moment, so I'm grateful for the chance to celebrate the celestial realm through these songs.

Casiopea / Cassiopeia (Cover) by @davidcentenor
English: The artist spotlighted here is a treasure among our Hive Open Mic community. He often brings the music of Silvio Rodríguez, giving us the gift of Rodríguez' songwriting talents along with @davidcentenor unique excellence. I am happy to feature this musician once again as our Spotlight Artist.
This song is sheer delight to my ears. At the 0:19 mark, this musician smiles, just subtly, showing how much fun he's having here. I imagine it must be a blast to play a musical masterpiece like this one and do it so brilliantly and beautifully.

His sound is angelic. I am impressed and touched by the beauty of this. It's a terrific song selection too—magical poetry. This song is a Venezuelan madrigal composed by Antonio Lauro with lyrics by Fernando Paz Castillo.

English: Wee! This song is a ride. I highly admire this artist's percussive guitar strumming. In this song, I especially love the part at 2:24 where she gives variance to the rhythm while keeping the tempo alive. She performs the song beautifully vocally too.

English: Please join me in welcoming @bertrayo to Hive Open Mic. Ah, I feel this man's passion in the beautiful mandolin trill at the 1-minute mark. I like the way he combines two separate instrumental parts and weaves them together, synchronized in an impressive way.

Ah, I feel myself soothed and bathed by this song, as if blanketed by the moonlight itself. This artist's presentation is a gift too, sharing the context of the song's origin, which I appreciate knowing, along with her excellent audio/video recording work — I like the way this particular camera angle reveals the complete keyboard, as if we have front-row seats to her recital. Her piano performance is stunning. Music by Robert Schumann.

English: I admire the way @ylich articulates the songs he carries so crisply, striking the melodic notes with precision. He continues to inspire me, week after week. The song is written by singer-songwriter Ricardo Cepeda, and I adore the words:
Hope vibrates in me that I will return to you... Tired of wandering I turn my arms into wings and up to your ground I will go.

This week, my entry is a song about the divine feminine connection. To me, I see a motherly presence in the moon. She reminds me of a mom's peaceful presence: steady, calm, and full of love. She reminds me of a mom who shines for her children, holding herself strong in times of fear, and sadness. Ultimately, she reminds me of a mom who teaches her child to embrace the divine light and let it shine.
Appreciation
Hive Open Mic showcases Hive's gifted and talented musicians. I honor these artists for expressing themselves in a way that creates connection. To me, we all benefit through the camaraderie between musicians and music fans, sharing a musical vibration. Please join me in extending our gratitude through claps, finger snaps, and tips to individual musicians.
