Hive Open Mic 56, Quiet Desert : General Review and Highlights

Hive Open Mic week 56 review.jpg

Quiet Desert was the inspiration for week 56 of Hive Open Mic.
As we know, every week, a new theme invites musicians to take the place of this live music stage. It is good to have those themes around which hive artists gather, and create new songs or choose to play the music that is connected to the topic.

There were around 100 entries for week 56 of Hive Open Mic and it means we are beating the record number again. It is great to see the growth of the community in number. However, we should not forget to pay attention to the quality of the posts as well. For example, try to explain the message that your entry brings or the proper introduction of the week with the username at the beginning of the video. Please don't forget that part. Also, I still think that it is good to support each other and try to engage as much as we can. Feel free to visit each other's entries, comment, and encourage.

Spotlight artist of the week 56

Desierto Tranquilo - Mae Ukulele (Canción Original) by @mae1501

The entry can be seen here

@mae1501 composed a beautiful but sad song for this week with a title that exactly matches the theme. After listening to it, I was really delighted with its melody and the simple but nice accompaniment on the ukulele instrument. She said she was inspired by a boy that was found alone, lost in the desert, crying. Oh, that’s why it was such a sad song. Mae, congratulations once again for this beautiful creation, continue composing your songs because you surely have a lot more to tell us and play. The Hive Open Mic community would be honoured if you could help us choose the topic for the upcoming week, number 59. If you can, let us know. Thanks.

Gracias.

This beautiful song is about the Médanos de Coro, a quiet desert in Venezuela. She sings so naturally well, and her talent can carry these words in a beautiful way to us. We can always listen to so distinguished performances by her. Thank you.

His beautiful and smooth way of playing was the first sign that this would be a very good performance. Followed by his voice, which brought a lot of nostalgia and emotions, it was just clear how great he is as a musician. The trombone playing was such a nice addition too. And not just he is a good musician, but a very active member of the hive community, engaging and supporting the others. Thank you for this beautiful entry for Hive Open Mic week 56.

Ancient Spirit of the Desert by @cabelindsay

The entry can be seen here

Cabe brings here a beautiful original song inspired by the desert and the mystical, mysterious nature of it. Lately, he is using the loop station and uses different subtle percussion instruments like maraca or hoop drum. Also, I see each time different colour of the lighting, bringing us more the atmosphere that he wants to emphasize. I hear in this song that he is singing in a lower register, and for me, it is calming. I feel the whistle like wind and a spirit floating above the desert. Thank you Cabe.

Gracias Cabe.

Desert Improvisation by @askeb

The entry can be seen here

Askeb is a very good pianist and brings us a lot of improvisation and jazz style pieces. This entry is so calm and quiet. His improvisation is brought here in impressionism style, for me, it was like listening to Claude Debussy. He achieves this smooth sound using the pedal which puts felt between the hammers and strings. Very nice entry!

Living with thirst (original song) by @cbuendia57

The entry can be seen here

I absolutely loved this entry, the original song was written by Cbuendia57 and the musical part was brought by her son, Julio. The lyrics are so great, saying that love in our lives is like water in the desert, and we should not stay in the desert for a long time and die of thirst. So wise lyrics that this user always brings us with her life experience. Thank you for sharing it with us.

Wow, terrific highlights list here. Very cool to see this brand new Spotlight Artist who is entirely new to me. @mae1501 is sharing a song that is written well, and performed with excellence, and multi-layered with some fabulous "ahh". Such a treat hearing and seeing the new talents arriving in this community, and the regulars offering their gems week after week. I'm honored to be included in the highlights, thank you.

Yes, @mae1501 did her third entry with this week, and this original song of her was so nice (the inspiration was a lost boy found in a desert) that it was the clear sign for me that she will be the spotlight, although it was very very difficult to make just 5 highlighted entries. You are very welcome Cabe with your participation with such a quality of your song and the whole performance!
I think we should celebrate the fact that we hit the number 100 of the participations :D

aaaaah what a thrill !!! You really do not know how happy I am to be able to participate in this wonderful open mic, and grateful to you @mipiano and @cabelindsay for taking me into account, the truth is I was super nervous since it is the first time I compose a song, I think that all the entries are super unique and special, how wonderful that they take the time to listen and see each participation of each member of this range of musicians who make this great Open vibrate every week !!! For me the motto of each of my days is Good Vibe !! And let's be positive, if that could be the theme of week 59 it would be great!!.

Oh @mae1501 I am so glad that this made you happy 💚

The effort of composing a special song around the topic is much appreciated and you did it very well! So, Buena Vibra - Good Vibe would be your chosen topic, I will let the admin know, ok? I think it is a great one :)
