Pistia is a genus of aquatic plant in the family of arum, Araceae. It’s the sole genus in the tribe Pistieae which usually reflects its systematic isolation within the family.
Pistia stratiotes is the single species it comprises of which is often called water cabbage, water lettuce, shellflower or Nile cabbage.
Water lettuce being a floating plant obtains all its nutrients directly from the water.
Which makes it a great plant to use & combat algae. Also the long feathery roots make great shelter for young fish & other wildlife.
Water lettuce is generally care free.
