Looking for the Moon

The moon was playing hide and seek
Looking for Halloween
Once more

halloween sky.jpg

It's over so quickly, ticking off the box as it runs by. Another holiday passing by, leading up to the big ones. Must we put up with the cold harsh weather as it approaches the end of the year? Today was almost 80F (almost 27C) sp we have a ways to slide down the mercury before we see any icicles. Or anything remotely chilly.

The weather is still unseasonably something for this time of year. Not as warm as usual, but, Autumn came a little bit out of step, and it is still a festival of color, although, soon enough, it too shall go the way of the summer. Is your weather par for the course or are you experiencing a different pattern?

20221101_081616.jpg

I woke to a weather advisory for today. Commuters and fog make terrible bedfellows. (as the saying goes) Patchy dense fog for most of the morning, followed by the increasing rays of sunshine. It ended so gloriously after the fender-bender rush hour kind of traffic. This is the view from my porch as I was getting into the car this morning. Yikes! Where was my car? Oh, yes. There.

pumpkin.

I never got to show off the carved pumpkin - a tree with a raven on it. This is the second year we have done this one. We also did three more, but I felt cheated that I didn't get to post them last night. So, pardon my lateness, something that seems to be following me around. Did you carve pumpkins for Halloween?

20221101_081554.jpg

Despite all the leaves on the trees, there are many on the ground, although I believe they are just hovering in a big pile while the rest of the grass is empty.

IMG-20221026-WA00642.jpg

We still have some time with the colors and I am enjoying the beauty of these days. I shall not waster nary one of them, as winter is on the way. Sooner than later, wouldn't you say? The weather is still warm, but in the blink of an eye, you know that can change. Are you having summer or leading into winter? Are you ready for it?

All I have are my words, armed in my mind, written in pen, stand by stand. Oh, yes. Still by hand. It has a different feel. Altered not by keys, backspace, and delete, I write, erase, tear it to pieces and start all over again. And again.

It’s my way. I walk out to the deep end of the page and dive right in.

You know the candy corn goes away for another year! Kiss it goodbye! And just like that, this post is over. Come back tomorrow and we'll do it again! Have a fabulous day!

The Road Not Taken

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I -
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

The waffly cooler weather did seem to come a bit earlier this year than average. It is true that lots of days the temps are still mild and perfect for yard work or play.

Take today, although there are slivers of blue sky peaking through here and there, it is mostly cloudy and expected to be cloudy all day, but the high will be around 70! Not too shabby.

Love your pumpky ! I didn't carve one. I can't quite remember when was that last time I did. It has been a long while. Now I just drag out my big ceramic Jacks, a few other little doodads and call it good !

I'll probably put away the bits of Halloween today. It was added into the fall decor. The fall decor can stay till the Christmas things come out. It won't really be that long now.... 3 weeks?? Wow.... it seems so near.

The photos of the fall colored trees I took only a few days ago are now missing those leaves on the top half of the trees. Poor things are quickly being stripped of their fall dresses. The fall beauty just never seems to last long enough, one rain, one windy day or too and "poor" ......it is gone.

 last year

It is strange weather! We have been close to 80 for the last few, but it has been so inconsistent, although not ever really cool, just not summery anymore. Boo! :) It has been perfect for hiking and biking, the garden is still full of flowers, so I can't even put the garden to bed for the winter. It usually is blooming until almost Thanksgiving. Mums and marigolds are hardy.

We carved three! We have only had sun and pretty and then boom! It rained on Halloween all over the little kids! They carried on, bravely, I might add. I have always had ceramic jack-o's but, for inside the house. And I made them in ceramics class. LOL Christmas trees. I really like how you used to do Halloween!! A nice spooky house would be perfect! :) I am almost ready to put out Christmas. Or perhaps I will just dream about it for a little bit. It does seem a little suspect that weather turns to rain and wind the moment the leaves turn, giving their beauty an early demise.

Who makes those rules?

Thanks for stopping by and leaving your words! xo

I, like the children, have never let a little rain keep me from candy 😄

Rules? Rules ?? I thought we banished those old things and just did as we wanted.

Maybe that's just me. LOL

Rules? Rules ?? I thought we banished those old things and just did as we wanted.

It seems like Mother Nature has her own set of rules. The minute the leaves start to turn, she rains or blows like a banshee, cutting the season short.

Those rules. :)

There has never ever been a way to handle Mother Nature, she's a handful for sure !

 last year

OMG! I went out to the backyard this morning and my tree which was 90% full last night, shed her leaves. She stands nekkid now.

Overnight. Boom. Thank goodness nobody else did. How odd!

Moon so mysterious, tantalizing glimpse of yesterday, today or tomorrow all at once!

Mists run low, although we entering summer, tis driving in a cauldron of mayhem, glad you found the car....

Quiet brief fall colour blanketing the ground, feeding the earth before winters snow, I do hope they not raked away?

Lead crystal bowl a reminder of precision practiced in a trade seldom witnessed, little fingers not allowed for tasty treats within I bet !LOLZ

!LUV Sure you had a wonderful evening with merriment in the town.

 last year

I don't rake the leaves away, but, sometimes I mulch them so they feed the earth over the winter. Autumn is such a peaceful season, everything preparing for a long winter's nap. We will be having many mornings of fog as we fall into the cooler temps, only to be back in the warm again.

Now, if only Mother Nature will let us have that!

I love my lead crystal bowls. So elegant and everything on it is so precise. They are hard to find unless you got to a specific store that sells crystal. Such a bygone nicety. I don't care. I still like mine. :) Always filled with something tasty! LOL

Thank you so much for stopping by and leaving your words! @joanstewart XO

!LUV

Fog descends on us going into summer with sudden weather change, safer to remain off the roads as people seriously have no respect for conditions, still drive at high speed never knowing what lies ahead.

Crystal bowl you have reminded me of one in our lounge growing up, four brats somehow smashed it when young... Still have some smaller pieces none as impressive.

!LOLZ Have a wonderful day.

Why did the melon have to get married in a church?
Because it cantelope.

I spent a lot of time in Prague and Austria having lived close to them for a while when it was affordable to someone young and had no obligations.

Older and wiser now, I realize that nobody needs that much crystal and even having gifted a lot of it when I moved back to the States, still have more than I need. Funny how things become less needed when you finally grow into what is important in life.

Fog is a definite hazard that isn't taken seriously enough.

We've been getting some fog lately too. This second summer has been nice though. I almost wish I hadn't put most of our deck furniture away because it looks like it might extend into this weekend and my wife and I could have maybe spent some more time out there. It's crazy to think that we are already into November and Thanksgiving will be here before we know it. It's already only a couple days until rifle hunting season starts which is pretty much a national holiday around here.

 last year

It really is a national hobby! I don't go near any woods or wooded areas then. Haha! Kidding. But, I never did in the UP if I was up there in hunting season. I had 80 acres and the entire Peninsula was covered in the Hiawatha National Forest. Everyone was always calling and trying to get permission to hunt there. Some big bears and deer were always gotten.

Anyway, good luck if you go.

The warm weather is really confounding the animals here. Some of the ducks just didn't want to leave and finally left on Halloween as it was 7 degrees cooler and rainy. The next day was 80. Too warm for now.

What's up, Mother Nature!??

Yeah, things have been quite crazy! No, I will be at work on the 15th. I haven't went hunting in years. My wife will not eat venison, so it seems pretty pointless to me.

 last year

I agree. Rule of thumb for me. If you aren't using it, it needs to stay in the forest.

Today was almost 80F (almost 27C)

Good for you. The temperature was around 15 °C in the afternoon in Tiszasüly, Hungary. At least the clouds mostly went away in the afternoon. The morning was cloudy. Currently the sunshine is visible, but the temperature feels cold.

 last year

Wow! That is quite chilly. I forget how chilly Hungary is. I wish you had the unseasonable warm weather the rest of the world is having.

That looks like a very nice area, I hope that you are finding more joy in your life living with your brother. I am sure it is nicer for you.

Thanks so much for stopping by and leaving your words.

The seasons are there but the weather is definitely off. It is warmer here too than normal for November. Mid 20’ I sooo don’t complain though and will enjoy the warmth that it brings. As here in the south of Spain. The houses are not insulated and have no heating. Lately the winters are sooo cold. It gets into your bones. The weather has more extremes for sure. Too cold now and too hot in the summer.

Such a beautiful pumpkin 🎃 love the carving. Would like to do something for Halloween next year… hope we have moved by than… somewhere hahaha 🤣

The mist is truly thick and difficult to navigate through… but it does make for pretty pictures.
Thanks for sharing Denise 👋🏻😊 I wish you a wonderful Wednesday 😎

We do love carving pumpkins. They are really only good for one or two days with candles in them. Of course, we could use lights instead, but, where is the skill in that? :)

The fog around here is the kiss of death. Commuters just don't know how to drive, or more likely, in too much of a rush and accidents happen. Hey, slow down, you are moving too fast! Right?

I forgot about Spain! I am not sure how I could! It is so uncomfortable with no insulation or heat. I have to wonder why not? It is 2022. Everyone I know does not like it in the winter or the heat of the summer. I had to put air conditioning in the shore house because there was none in 1869. That is what happens. It just makes life more comfortable. And the dwellings have a better life. :)

Hi, Jackie! I hope you are having a great day!!

 last year

I know… we want the real thing 🎃🎃 will carve some next year for sure.

That’s crazy indeed. You just have to slow down with mist/ fog. No other way. They should leave earlier…
But all are rushing nowadays.

It is uncomfortable for half of the year and that period is extending. I don’t understand it either in these times. But most down south, the houses I mean, are build for summer holidays. So they don’t think about insulation or heating. Even in the summer it gets too hot. As it doesn’t stay cool even if you have air conditioning.
But soon we move out… so all good 😎 (I feel like I have been saying that forever hahaha 🤣)

Thanks a lot Denise 😊👋🏻 So far I have. Enjoy your day too and make it a happy one!
🤗🤗

The climate has definitely changed dear
@dswigle, it's not the same as it used to be. In my country we already have two years of rain and in the last few days it has caused havoc.

But how nice that you are enjoying the colors of your landscapes, I always like to recreate myself for a while and get lost among them as if my mind was traveling for a moment to feel the breeze and take the leaves from the ground and bring them home to make my crafts.

 last year

Wouldn't that be nice!!! Still, raining there? That definitely would wreak havoc after a while. The earth can only take so much.

All this warm and not enough cold surely cannot be good for our earth. I am sure we will be seeing cooler temperatures when we get closer to Christmas.

If I could blow some beautiful leaves your way, I would! They make such beauty in art! Thank you for stopping by @carolinacardoza ❤️

Candy corns....! May I know what are they? Kind of sugar coated corns or something else?

The full moon on the event of Halloween would have increased the feeling for the day.

never got to show off the carved pumpkin - a tree with a raven on it

Wowwww! It is sooo beautifully carved. I thought for s while that it was a painting. Do you put some light inside the pumpkin? I mean how come it is so shinny?

At my city Karachi, in Pakistan, winter doesn't come so early, and is quite short lived. Till date our fans are opened and we are comfortable in our cotton dresses

 last year

Candy corn is a type of small, pyramid-shaped candy, typically divided into three sections of different colors, with a waxy texture and a flavor based on honey, sugar, butter, and vanilla. It is a staple candy of the fall season and Halloween in North America.

Just sugar in a pyramid! I like to put it in a jar for color. The moon was perfect and the pumpkins are always fun to carve. There were three. We put a candle inside them. They are shiny because the light makes it appear that way.

Winter actually doesn't come early here either. We are still in shorts and cotton. We did have a couple of cooler days, but we are back to cooling mode. Maybe by the end of the month, it will be cooler, but, who knows? It could be tomorrow. :) We don't have the harsh winter of the north, but we do get snow now and then!

The garden is still blooming.

I just came across a post of yours yesterday. I never get around it seems, so tied up with commenting on the #MarketFriday posts. I must be doing something wrong that it takes me so long! Everyone else seems to manage their challenges well.

Anyway, thank you for being so kind and thoughtful. It is always good to see you. xoxo

👍💕 it's my pleasure, @dswigle love your writing, have a awesome day.

have done nothing halloween related not my thing , but the weather here is very soft for the time of year , normally all tree's would be without leafs by now , but the nights are still above 10 degrees celcius no need to turn on the heater yet , almost a good thing in this time of energy crisis

 last year

The weather has been! From what I can see, the world over has experienced abnormal patterns this year. I keep waiting for Autumn to kick in, and leaves have gotten their color, but, I still have shorts and t-shirt weather.

I am not complaining! I just hope it doesn't get stuck on winter like this! :)

That is true, for sure. We can use a break like this with the energy crisis. Small favors, yes?

Hi, Mick! @stresskiller

this is from this mornings walk , as you can see still way to much green on the trees , the only tree showing colours is the red oak .

 last year

Ours were all green ten days ago! Then, like a wand over them... Poof! What a nice walk that is! You really are behind with the weather! You should be cold by now! ;)

Perfect shot of playing hide and seek of moon! Moonlit seems to me magical. Perfect Images that represent halloween and autumn and yes a new year soon knock our door and before that you’ll celebrate the Christmas!
