THE HISTORY OF JACKIE O .............................. A #BoW CONTEST "What with your name?"

in Silver Bloggers3 years ago (edited)

**A gentle knock was heard on the door, as Sister Christine Marie moved quickly to answer, "Good Morning Sister Dominic", as the class stood . "Heads on the desk", the Principal of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic school demanded. Each fourth grader crossed their hands in prayer, as heads slowly descended on their wooden desks.

It was November 22, 1963, I was nine years old.

John Fitzgerald Kennedy, the 35th president of the United States, was assassinated on Friday, November 22, 1963, at 12:30 p.m. CST in Dallas, Texas, while riding in a presidential motorcade through Dealey Plaza.[1] Kennedy was riding with his wife Jacqueline, Texas Governor John Connally, and Connally's wife Nellie when he was fatally shot by Lee Harvey Oswald, who was a former US Marine firing gunshots from a nearby building. Governor Connally was seriously wounded in the attack. The motorcade rushed to Parkland Memorial Hospital, where Kennedy was pronounced dead about 30 minutes after the shooting; Connally recovered.

A sad day in America.

Sister Christine, who was hands down my best teacher ever, came back into the room with redden eyes and wet cheeks, and said "Children, I have some sad news, President Kennedy has been shot, we must pray for him. "Take out your Rosary Beads".

We knelt next to our desks, beads in hand, as we recited our prayers out loud .

The news spread across our nation. "President Kennedy was dead." Survived by his wife Jackie, his daughter Caroline and son John Jr.

All three network channels carried the story of America's lose of a great leader. We mourned as a nation.

It was then that I found a connection with Jackie, she had such grace through great tragedy. She was elegant and eloquent, she had style with humility, always holding her head up high to show love and respect for the man she loved.

Jacqueline Kennedy, former First Lady of the President of the United States should have been allowed to live in peace to heal her wounds and to care for her children. That would not happen for Jackie, nope, the media's hounding would push her to the edge.
The tabloids and news media kept after her and her fragile family. There was no relief from the exposure she felt. I speak of this from memories I know to be true. After that dreadful day back in November of 1963, Jackie Kennedy became an obsession of mine, following stories of her life in magazines and newspapers. I felt her pain. Admired her strength.

"Exactly half a century ago Saturday, on Oct. 20, 1968, Jackie wed Aristotle Onassis, becoming “Jackie O” — and one of the richest and most glamorous women in the world — overnight."

Jackie O was always my hero. She dealt with heart break throughout her entire life. Yet she was poised and articulate. I could go on, but let's leave it at that.

She was beautiful and glamorous. Her style in fashion became world renowned. Just her big, bold sunglasses earned me my name.

The year was 1985, it would mark our 10th wedding anniversary in August. My mom volunteered to watch our three sons for the weekend so we could celebrate.

A cabin on Saranac Lake in Upstate NY was where we would end up to pop the cork to toast our 10 years as a married couple.

We had gone to this beautiful lake the year before with our boys and vowed then to return, there was still so much to take in there. Just watching people jump into this crystal clear lake off a shear rock some 25 feet up was entertainment enough.

NOT so much FUN watching @thebigsweed jump off that same rock just the year before.😲😟

Here we are at Saranac Lake with our boys and some of our best friends.

The birth of Jackie o.

Remember I mentioned Jackie Kennedy was famous for her style and fashion sense? Well, as we drove into the small town that sat just a few miles away from where we had rented a cabin on Saranac , the sun was glaringly bright and I had left my shades at home. Time for a new pair. We slipped into a little variety shop and there they were, my JACKIE O SUNGLASSES. Perfect! Big and bold, dark glass and that almost round shape. Next to the sunglass rack were these big beautiful, floppy sunhats, I knew I had seen a picture or two of Jackie wearing sunhats on her husband's yacht.

The next morning dawned with a beautiful sunrise as we packed up our small fishing boat for a day on the lake. Our hope was to catch some fresh fish for dinner, then camp on one of the islands on the lake. We also packed the Champagne that we would pop later in the day, celebrating our special day.

After a few glasses of bubbly, Jackie O came to life. Donning her sunglasses and new hat, she climbed onto the front of the yacht that was powered by a 9 1/2 horse power engine, 😁 and struck a pose. Hubby cranked up the engine and off we went for a sunset cruise.

Jackie O has been around ever since.

Hello #silverbloggers, I hope you enjoyed the story of my new name, it's a handle that's been with me for years now, it's here to stay.

Best Wishes,

Jackie O'Silver

What a story and what a lovely post Lady Jackie O'Silver.

Amazingly I was also 9 years old in 1963.
On the 6th of April 1652 a guy called Jan van Riebeeck arrived in "The Cape of Storms" with three ships to establish a settlement in South Africa and 302 years later I was born on the 6th of April. It's a long story but no space here.

Like I said, you have a wonderful ode to Jackie Kennedy here and your family also looks like a pleasant bunch. The @thebigsweed seems just as crazy as me and that sunset cruise and the few glasses of bubbly certainly must have made for some fond memories.

Well done, !LUV and !PIZZA

Hi there Sir Sterling Silver, so I guess we both are truly #silverbloggers. Works for me, I am happy to still be hanging around, doing my thing. Aren't we the lucky ones to still have our partners.
Jackie O was such a role model for me. She lived an incredible life . I still wear BIG sunglasses and am still referred to as Jackie O. It always make us both remember that weekend of fun.
Thanks for all your support, I hope things with you are going as well as expected, I understand everyday you face great challenges and you are in my prayers.

Hi Mrs. Jackie O" Silver, I agree that we are both legit #silverbloggers, but I fear that I am starting slowly, but surely to rust. Every time that I see one of those old rust buckets driving around at the beachfront, I am reminded about my own mortality 🤣

Yes, she was a legend and it is so nice of you to carry on with her traditions. Maybe soon you guys should have an exact repeat of that weekend?
Just watch that the husband doesn't jump off that rock again as we don't want to send him get well cards 🤣

Hope is our strength my friend and it has helped us over the years to endure. But one has to hope in the right force that is not of this world.

Thank you also for your kind support and prayers and you know that it is reciprocated.

Blessings, !LUV and !PIZZA

The assassination was such a tragic event. Jackie O is one classy lady.

Good morning @positvesteem. I will never forget that sad day. It made such an impression on me as a 9 y/o. Seemed every where you turned, people were crying. My dad even cried a few times, that was unusual, he was old school, 'men don't cry'.
Jackie was an inspiration to me.
Have a wonderful day.

That was such a huge tragic event felt all over the world! Thank you for telling us your story Jackie O'Silver and sharing these sad and happy memories.
Funny you were born a year after me and got married a year after our marriage too so we're from the same era😍

Oh, so I am younger than you, I'll try not to rub that factoid in too much.😁
Our anniversary is August 30, 1975, is it a full year's difference? Small world.

Poor Jackie O, she really did have it rough. She lost her son Jon in a plane crash, he was still quite young. Just goes to show you how even the wealthiest people in the world can't stop tragedy from hitting home.

On a lighter note, have a wonderful day, stay healthy and try not to cause too much trouble. 😉😁😂

Poor Jackie O certainly had to face many tragedies!
We got married on 21 Dec 1974 :)
I beat you to it on both occasions, isn't it fun :):)
I'm making sure I'm getting enough sleep, been burning the midnight oil way too long! Do not want to scare the fam like that again; hubby needs someone to look after him especially with the hypoglycemic episodes;) He's been a type 1 diabetic since the tender age of 7 so is on insulin.

oooffff, yeah girl, the hubby needs you, get to bed before midnight.
You know what they say, 1 hour of sleep before midnight is worth 2 after.

Excellent advice thank you my young friend 😉
Some homework for you: 😅

Jackie O'silver just rolls off the tongue. I was born a year and a day after he was shot on the 23rd of November.

That was a nice story of the heavenly time at the cabin.

Such an American tragedy , so many felt the pain Jackie felt that day. She was an icon. Admired her greatly.
Thanks for stopping by @carolynstahl, nice to hear from you.

Dear Jackie O Silver, I'm surprised you didn't go with Melania T Silver, I know how much you admire her and The Donald.😁😁😁😁😁
It is very cool how this blogging stuff here on the #hive blockchain rekindles soooo many fond memories.
Luv you Jackie O Silver, and hurry home, I miss you and I'm running a little low on the great meals you prepared knowing you would be out of town for several days.

PB&J sandwiches will have to become a staple if you don't return soon. 😥

Hey Long Silver, hope you don't starve while I'm gone, but maybe you'll loose a couple pounds, can't hurt. 😉
Miss you too, absence makes the heart grow fonder, isn't that what they say, see ya soon sweed.

I knew it must have something to do with the Kennedy family and Jackie, but now I know it for sure, and also why 😊 I like your chosen name Jackie O'Silver that was inspired by a great woman.

We all know about the sad things that happened back then. I was born after 1963, but later we learned the story at school. It's history, sad history.

Hello @johannpiber, when President Kennedy was shot it seemed the world stood still, holding our breath collectively, hoping he would live. But when the news confirmed his death, the tears flowed and a nation dropped to it's knees. It truly left a mark on my soul. As I watched Jackie, as she stood next to Johnson being sworn in, I could only imagine how numb she was, how broken hearted she was, just a terrible time in our History. I take her name to honor a truly amazing woman.

He was a real good man and not a single tear has flowed in vain. You can imagine her feelings in this photo, even if you don't know what's happened.
