Musical Memories

A Song from each decade of my life

There is some hard hard thinking needed on my side now, not for the first one though... that's an easy one.

The first cassette i bought with my own money was from Status Quo - Piledriver and on that one it was actually a Doors cover i was listening all the time...

Then, not exactly, a decade later there was Supertramp passing through my ears...

The album "Breakfast in America" was a birthday present from my uncle... i was 13 years old. My "career" as a musician started right with that record and changed my life for the better, after living the really bad "rosenkrieg" of my parents, and it made me start playing the clarinet and become a disc jockey at more or less the same time...

My dj collection was growing potentially. My heart found the funky grooves, which was untipycal for a swiss born at the time... most folks where into disco or rock, but not me - i found the funk, so the next song i present is from P-Funk

Yeah i know, they started playing already in the sixties and the seventies, it just took a while to arrive on my turntable. Bloody Swiss!

Then came the ninties, which to me was just a big pile of crap. "Everyone" started to use computers to "make music" and only very few understood how to do so. Like "Yello" for example...

For the rest i concentrated on the good stuff i already knew and was really happy that in '96 one of my fav Rock'n Roll bands, Kiss made a compilation record. This next song became a must play for me while playing live sets in the youth center in my home town...

After earth was still around in the new millennia and i was already on the road for six years, to me, musically everything changed when i found acid jazz and world music, especially a fusion of it... that just made me the good kind of crazy. Ever since i mix up all kind of genres and because the nineties traumatised me in the deepest parts of my soul, today, i avoid everything coming out of the mainstream... life is too short for crappy noise.

...and on and on and on! While reading all this again, i realise that this does not even scratch the surface of my musical memories. But hey, over 43 years of grooving some tunes is not easy to put into a three minutes read. Hehehe!

😁

Who are "Supertramp"? ...

The more I study music the less I know about it ... but I can feel its power!

As you can imagine I'm taking this post-course time to play as much as I can in order to progress some so I left apart all that it's not music basically since my free time is what it is... barely none.

Sending big hugs to you Dude 🤗

You do not know Supertramp??? 😱 Bro, you must be too young then... hahahaha

Te envío mucho amor. Que te cuides y que tengas salud, hermano mío.

Irony Mode was ON 🤣

Yep, i got that... ditto. Since you said it already, same here, i can't understand music, but i can feel the enormous power of it...

Music Is The Key

The ancient Greeks thought that music (as everything else) was a reflect from the Universe's perfect harmony so it could modify the spirit of people... it could also be used to "manipulate" them in order for people to become good citizens!

it could also be used to "manipulate" them

Check the "reasons" some chose 44Hz as tuning note (instead of the harmonic 42Hz) - see what is happening with disorder and disharmony on this planet... Leave out the "could" and observe the very truth of it! 😏

yello ~ Awesome thanks for that I have listened to yello for years, I will listen to some today. Some great bands you featured and I expected no less of you!

Uuuuuh, no pressure please... :BigSmirk:

Yello - the only swiss band i really can listen too... hehe

hehe they are decent!

I had that Supertramp on vinyl. Kiss is the third album I owned, I was probably 5 or 6, got it for Christmas, whatever album Lick It Up was on.

Vinyl Forever! And yep, lick it up was really on... kind of made me forget that they were unmasked from then on. How dare they?!

This was a different mix-up for me. Lots of tunes that made me think of all-nighters and dank clubs where my head wouldn't stop spinning.

Loved the warning beforehand, 'cos it sure was a unique view.

Hehehe... yep, the all-nighters i remember quite good too. Pleasure to have you over and read, even after the warning. 😁

You're welcome. Thank you for returning the favour. 😊

Oh, geez, I've been meaning to come over and say thank you for reminding me of some of my favourites which didn't make it into this post. My favourite Supertramp is Crime of the Century which I mentioned in an earlier post. Thank you for the memories...

That's definitely an awesome album with the same name... Pleasure! Li? Fi? 😁

What an eclectic collection of musical taste experienced and expressed right here in your blog 💗 I had to jump straight to Yello hehe... thoroughly enjoyed that...haven't listed to them in years!

I agree the '90's were a struggle - a dearth of real music. 😂😂😂 but then the '80's were an exceptionally hard act to follow!

The Last Chance to Dance Trance was a little red herring !LOLZ... I was expecting something that my hubby would love and instead found something that I loved... late night jazzed up jazz - what a nice surprise.

Nils Petter Molvaer - enjoyed this... your musical journey is expansive and diverse, Dan!

Marie Boine track has a great rhythm and beat to it and a melody that carries nicely ... it builds to a frenzy...but in a good way...like a good communal beach party... dancing around the flames with live music... I don't understand a word they are saying... I was expecting French but this sounds more Spanish x Native American x Asian Indian - like some sort of traditional or local dialect maybe of this band??? Whatever it is, it sounds special. I haven't googled to check... or something... not sure hahaha... geez I am *loving this, Dan!!!

I have to get ready to go and meet up with friends. We are going into Windsor to pay our respects at the castle. I shall leave this post open and revisit for some writing inspiration later this eve as I love turning to music to get the creative juices flowing. Definitely adding these tracks to my youtube playlist. thank you for the incredible share

Fusion is "my baby" so that's that. Medeski, Martin and Wood are some real Jazz Geniuses to me... especially because i like it strange. (ZappaOnid At Heart here)

Then for Mari Boine, she's a Norwegian Sámi singer... Her albums are already awesome, but since she loves to work with modern style musicians and has some "pepped up" grooves added to some of her works, to me she's an shining example of World-Fusion.

That you have found some "happy tunes" make me happy too. Thanks for passing by and listening...
