Yep, that's the way it works. My husband grew up in northern Minnesota, known for its cold, snowy winters. He learned as a youngster the value of plowing the first snowfall 'way back in the field so there would be room to plow the subsequent snowfalls. I remember one exceptionally snowy winter here in Idaho when he started out by pushing the snow to the back end of the garage, and by spring it was piled up all the way to the front of the garage.

Wow I just can't my head around that. Here in the UK we just don't get snow like that!

I would prefer snow in moderation!
