Some of the birdhouses around the yard have been up for over 25 years, and some of them were in desperate need of repair. I decided to work on one of them so I could get it up in time for nesting season.
I had a lot of crystal chips in a drawer and thought that they would look good on the walls. I chose moonstone chips since I had a lot of them.
I blocked out an area on one side with dark green chips and used citrine for the window area. I put an adhesive on the wood in sections while I placed the crystal chips in place.
It was a slow process, but I knew that it would look nice in the end.
The front of the birdhouse got some amethyst chips for the door. If I had thought it through, I would have taken the time to sort out the darkest ones for the door. Too late, the adhesive was getting too dry by the time I realized it would have looked better.
I chose dark brown acrylic paint to trim the entire house with to give it some contrast. It is starting to look pretty good.
Before I worked on the roof, I sealed the entire house with acrylic sealer to protect the adhesive from the elements. I gave it two good coats and let it dry overnight.
Now, to make a roof for it. I found some scrap wood in the shed, and hubby cut two pieces for me, and I got them screwed into place.
I had a bag of wood pieces in my craft bin and thought they would look nice for the roof. I put one layer on and thought, why not a second one, and this was the result. All that was left was to seal the roof and put a piece of rod in for the birds to sit on.
We ended up putting the house on top of the trellis arch by the vegetable garden.
Once it was secured in place, I took a couple of photos to share.
Now, we wait and see what type of bird will claim this new chalet for its own. I still have two other birdhouses sitting in the shed waiting for repairs; maybe that will be a project for the summer. At least I got one done, lol.

Yep, that's how simple it is for the stone look. I have others that need fixing, but maybe someday on the back porch. Thunderstorms for three days in a row and Mika is not liking it at all.
