I made a post a couple of weeks ago My Soundtrack for the 80s my favourite decade
Quite a self-explanatory title and it is my inspiration for the next few posts on ttt!
First up is a band that released a banger of a tune in 1980
It is Tuesday and that of course means that it's #ttt or #threetunetuesday and so it's time to share some tunes with you!

The Band - The Jam
For this week's #ThreeTuneTuesday, I’m taking us back to the late 70s and early 80s to celebrate a band that defined an era ... The Jam.
Hailing from Woking in the south of England they were the undisputed kings of the Mod Revival. While many bands in 1977 were focused on the "no-future" chaos of punk. They were made up of Paul Weller, Bruce Foxton, and Rick Buckler and they looked backward to the sharp suits and soulful beats of the 60s to create something entirely new. The Jam became the face of the Mod Revival.
What makes them perfect for my #TTT selection apart from being named in my soundtrack post that I mentioned earlier is their sheer consistency, something that we on Hive know all about. They weren’t just about the fashion. oh fluff no, they were about the fire. Weller’s lyrics provided a gritty commentary on British working-class life. They burned brightly and briefly, famously calling it quits at the very height of their powers in 1982. Then came The Style Council and solo careers, but for me all their best music was as The Jam!
Tune 1 - The Jam - Going Underground
This was the band’s first Number 1 hit and is possibly their most famous anthem. It’s a blistering critique of political corruption and social apathy. As was quite common back in the day it was released as a double A-side with "The Dreams of Children."
Released: March 1980
Album: Originally released as a non-album single (though it now appears on most "Best Of" collections and reissues of Setting Sons).
Tune 2 - The Jam - Town Called Malice
Does this sound familiar...?
This track is famous for Bruce Foxton’s iconic thumping bassline, which was heavily inspired by the Motown classic "You Can't Hurry Love." There you go, now you know why it is familiar!
It perfectly captures the struggle and frustration of life in a small British town in the early 80s.
Released: January 1982
Album: The Gift
Tune 3 - The Jam - That’s Entertainment
A change of pace from their usual high-octane sound, this acoustic-driven track is a masterpiece of observational songwriting. Weller reportedly wrote the lyrics in about 10 minutes after a night out, describing the mundane but poetic sights and sounds of British life.
Released: 1980 (as part of the album); February 1981 (as an import single).

Bonus Tune - The Jam - In The City
I had to include this as it was their debut single and the song that first introduced the world to Paul Weller. While the punk movement was exploding in 1977, The Jam showed up in sharp mohair suits with a sound that took the power of punk and polished it with the style of 60s bands like The Who.

Guess I know what I am listening to today... I usually only eat a big breakfast on the weekends. During the week it is a quick bowl of cereal before I head off to work.
I also like to eat Jam paired with peanut butter😌. Hehehe those songs so lively😌
What an awesome band! Those are some great picks, it's been awhile since I listened to them. Very cool! Back to the early 80's!

I prefer a more savory! That would be like my afternoon snack. As for the music, I think this is the first time I've heard this group. But I like their music. Musical hug
