On my photography trip in Salzburg this last weekend I was able to finally visit the valley of vultures and I could take several nice pictures of the vultures living there. They are some big and impressive birds and since 2 years I tried to get to the spot where they fly, but every time Stefan and I tried to get back there the weather was too bad and we decided to head back to our car. This year we where finally lucky and could take several nice pictures of these big birds in flight. I am very happy since it is also another bird on my list that I hadn't taken any pictures before. It was a pretty long hike back to the valley but I have to admit that it definitely payed off.

The vultures where flying from their Rock and sometimes got really close, the perfect situation for us. Vultures are one of the biggest birds here in Austria and this is also a fact that I really like them. They may not look so beautiful but since they are not so easily found anymore I am very happy to get the chance for some pictures. I have now seen 150 different bird species since I started to track my sightings, still a long way to get to 300 but I am slowly progressing and the vultures contributed 1 species to this list. I am tracking my list of species with Ornitho and the Naturalist App on my smartphone. When staying only in one region it is pretty difficult to get a lot of different species thats why I plan to travel and visit places in Africa and South America to get a lot more species on my list.

In Europe there are only very vew populations of the Vultures left, there is one in Spain and Italy and in Austria. The bigger populations can be found in Asia and Africa.

👍
Your Sigma seems produce a decent results, isnt it? Are you happy with how this lense work? I am considering what I can get to improve my Canon 70-300mm....
and a !BEER as an extra 👍
Yes I am very happy with my Sigma 150-600mm lens. Of course an aperture of 6.3 is not the best and during the morning and evening time you might have some problems with light compared to a lens with an 4.0 Aperture but these lenses cost about 10 times more. So for the Price I am extremely happy with it.

.I am glad the weather co-operated and you got to shoot some nice pictures of the vultures. I love to watch birds fly in the sky - especially the big ones. They look so graceful.
Thank you, yes this year we where lucky with the weather, the past few years we didn't have luck and decided to go back down to the valley since a bad weather in the mountains is not so funny and also can get dangerous.
👍
Sehr schöne Aufnahmen! :)
Danke dir. Ja es war ein tolles Erlebnis.
Such an awesome bird! Definitely on my bucket list to see.
