RE: Three Cattle Egrets and Deep Meditation

in Feathered Friends3 days ago

Egrets are exciting to watch, not shy of humans in most places I have been in our country. List of egrets found in different regions.

Common Egret Species in South Africa: (google find)

Great Egret (Ardea alba): The largest white egret, found near wetlands, rivers, and estuaries, preying on fish and frogs.
Little Egret (Egretta garzetta): Smaller than the Great Egret, known for its active hunting of fish, insects, and crustaceans, often near humans or livestock.
Western Cattle Egret (Bubulcus ibis): Famous for associating with livestock and farm equipment to catch disturbed insects, found widely across Africa.
Intermediate Egret (Ardea intermedia): A distinct white egret, sometimes confused with the Great Egret, with specific bill and leg features.
Slaty Egret (Egretta vinaceigula): A smaller, darker egret found in Southern Africa, considered vulnerable due to habitat loss, often in wetland.

Sort:

I believe our bird here is the Western Cattle Egret.

Wow, there are so many. Thank you, @joanstewart.
