Feathered Friends Contest 27, Birds on a Branch

in Feathered Friends3 years ago

Here is my entry for the Birds on a Branch contest. A Murder of Crows has been frequenting our feeder and pond every day for about a week now. Of course, they didn't come this morning when I was prepared. And of course they didn't perch in the very top of the trees like they did every other day.

They waited until evening today, and when I had my smaller lens on, instead of my big zoom lens. I was taking closeup Bee pictures this morning and posted those earlier. I still got some good shots, including a few in-flight that I'll post later with other ground pictures.

This one is my entry for the contest, just because of the unusual action, though I like the one just below better. This guy was upset, calling at the others, 2 of them joined him on the branch, but I couldn't get shots thru the trees.

Wonderful shots!
Birds are full of surprises. 🙂

Yes they are and thank you!

I love them, they are like the chulingas that visit my yard, I imagine they are outrageous, beautiful photos, congratulations.

Thanks, more to come soon!

Hi @ksteem!! I do love a good "murder" of crows ..lol! You got some awesome photos and I can see where you would have a hard time on deciding which to post as your entry! How is your move coming along? I hope smoothly! 💕

Thanks on the comments! Move not as fast as we had hoped.. We had to drop contract on house we had contracted on as too many (expensive) issues found during inspection (84 pages!). Still no contract on ours yet and just over a month listed. Realtor said avg in the area is 29 days... so now we're officially running late! On the good news side, we did find a newer house (without the repair issues) and put contract on it, just waiting for it to be accepted.

You're very welcome! Is the newer one in Vermont also? I know here houses are selling as soon as they are put on the market with some people opting out of "pending inspection" which is stupid imo! Glad you got the inspection and found out about all of the issues it had. Hoping it all works out for you @ksteem!! 🙂

Thanks for that! Yes, the new one is also in Vermont, just closer to the northwest side of the state this time. I think there's times to stick to the inspection and perhaps times/and houses to let it go. It really depends on how much work is a person willing to put into it after closing? I think like us, most people may not mind the minor repairs and upkeep, but certainly don't like big surprises of leaky roofs, bad wiring, or mold/radon/asbestos remediation!

What is "a murder of crows"..?
very nice shots btw

Hello, @barbara-orenya Thanks for viewing my post!
According to Wikipedia, "The collective name for a group of crows is a "flock" or a "murder".
I just like calling them a murder, because how often do you get to use that in a sentence?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corvus#:~:text=The%20collective%20name%20for%20a,%22%20or%20a%20%22murder%22.

Enjoy!

Ooh...I didn't know this way of saying ... 😁and I'm relieved no crow has been murdered then 😄
Thanks for your answer and for sharing your lovely captures !

beautiful 1st foto! (and I love these dimmed colors a lot as well).

Thank you. Yes cloudy day and had to actually touch with a bit of PS love to lighten them up.

Wonderful photos of these fantastic birds! What will you miss most about Colorado when you move?

Thank you, I'll miss two things the most. First, all the days of sunshine that we get here. Second will be all of the wildlife I see out of my window, my herds of deer, the squirrels, the bears and of course all of the birds coming through. I'm hoping we get a good variety of wildlife at the new place as well, and will definitely be putting up a new feeder!

Is your new house rural? If it is I suspect that you will have wildlife there, as well. And yes, a bird feeder would be essential for making your new house feel like home!

Oh yes, even more rural than this one. It's way out, and supposedly has a stream running through the property (mostly wooded), but we haven't seen that yet. And yes, of course there will be many Wednesday and Saturday walk pictures coming in another month or two when we get there!

And Feathered Friends pictures, too!
