Yard birds

in Feathered Friends2 years ago

Got the camera out over the long weekend. Several fun captures. Finally got a pic of one of the Ravens that are living up the hill that I keep talking with @corvidae about. I hear them every morning, and I think they have a nest hidden up there, but so far haven't found it.

Anyway, they seem to be snacking in the yard early afternoons the past week. It's a bit grainy, especially on the cropped version, this was from 150 yards away with the 100-400 zoom lens.

Then there was a Flicker, very pretty birds, especially their spotted belly.

Then this nice female cardinal.

Then of course there are the ever-present Robins. Look closely and you'll see this one has a large bug in it's mouth!

I also got some really nice goldfinch pics that I'll share in the next post.

WOW, wonderful birds!'
I never knew female cardinals were not red!

Thanks, Yes, only the males have to dress up all colorful and show-off for their ladies! The females are more camouflaged to avoid predators.

Good pictures! I wonder what Flicker was looking for in the grass, he's still a woodpecker, should be in the trees. Probably ants.

Thanks for the comment and info on the Flicker. I often see them on the ground here. After your comment, I looked it up and it said they do often peck at the ground for ants like the would in trees. We do have a LOT of ant mounds around the yard, so I'm guessing you're spot on with that.

Whoa that huge bug is a total score for that robin.

Ohheylook, raven!!
