FEATURES OF THE FEATHER👨‍🏫🦆🦆⛲🌺

IMG_3688.JPG

Adult males have a "green-carafe" head and a white anel do not fish. O back e o ventre são acinzentados e o peito e castanho dark. O espelho alar é blue e o bico é amarelo. As females have a pattern of plumage, em tons of castanho, being similar to other species of surface ducks. Therefore, some characteristics such as o size, spelho alar, or cor do bico, can help to distinguish this species from others with some security. You youth and adults in eclipse appear as some semelhanças as fêmeas. São ainda easily identifies, both em voo and pousados, due to suas vocalizações, a very typical quá-quá-quá ou quak-quak-quak.😍😍

It was one of the many birds scientifically described by Carlos Linneo in his work Natural System of 1758, and it will still bear its original binomial name. The real animals hybridize with their closest relatives within the genus Anas, such as the dark age, and with some species more neglected like the tailed animal, producing diverse hybrids that can be totally fertile. This unusual phenomenon that occurs among species of animals is due to the fact that the blue and other ducks of the Anas genus have evolved very quickly and recently, to the end of the Pleistocene. The lines of this radiation are kept separate from coinciding with their distribution areas for behavioral reasons, but they are not yet genetically incompatible.😮😮

It presents a marked sexual dimorphism in its plumage. The female has a more muted colored plumage, predominantly streaked in brown tones, with a marked contrast between light and dark tones because each feather can be in part from dark brown to light cream. This coloration is shared by most female surface ducks😶😶

REPRODUCTION👨‍🏫🦆🦆⛲🌺

When the ducklings are born they are covered with yellow down in the lower parts and the face, and blackish brown in the upper parts, with some yellow specks. Its legs and beak are blackish. With the first feathers, the ducklings acquire a plumage of brown tones similar to that of the females, although more streaked, and their legs and beak become lighter.14 The feathering period ends two months after hatching. Juveniles begin to fly at three to four months😊😊

when their wings and muscles are fully developed. Juveniles can be distinguished by the color of their beaks, yellow for males and orange or brown for females; its chest, which is reddish-brown in the case of males, and the central tail feathers, which are curled upwards in males and straight in females. When approaching the period of sexual maturity (between 6-10 months), the plumage of the females remains the same while that of the males gradually changes until it reaches the tones of the adult. This change in plumage is similar to that of adult males when spring arrives and they regain reproductive plumage. The sexual maturity of the azulones occurs at 14 months and they have a life expectancy of three years.😍😍

Mallards are widely distributed throughout the Northern Hemisphere and have been introduced to some regions of the Southern Hemisphere. They are found naturally in North America from Alaska and Greenland to Mexico, the Hawaiian Islands, most of Eurasia from Iceland and Scandinavia in the west to Siberia, China and Japan in the east, in addition to North Africa. It has been introduced in Australia and New Zealand. It is a long-distance migratory bird in the northern parts of its range, wintering in the southern parts. For example, those from North America overwinter in Mexico, and also regularly enter Central America and the Caribbean between September and May. Bluebirds inhabit a wide variety of habitats and climates, from the Arctic tundra to the subtropical regions. It is found in both fresh and salt water wetlands, including lakes, ponds, rivers, swamps, and estuaries, as well as shallow inlets and offshore open ocean; and also parks and urban areas. They prefer shallow waters, less than a meter, and tend to avoid the deeper ones. And they are attracted to bodies of water with aquatic vegetation.🌏🧭

BEHAVIOUR👨‍🏫🦆🦆⛲🌺

IMG_3685.JPG

IMG_3698.JPG

It is a very gregarious bird outside the breeding season, and can form large flocks. It is a rather surly and distrustful duck, which rarely allows close-range approach, being normally the first to flee from human presence (except for the residents in cities). It is grouped to nap during the day and at night it moves to the feeders. Its great capacity for adaptation and use of different food sources are the reasons for its large population.😮😮

Unlike other waterfowl, the mallard has benefited from human disturbances to the environment. They are highly adaptable and are able to live, and even thrive, in humanized and urban environments, which previously could have supported other more sensitive duck species. Its population and range are huge, and although its population is believed to be declining slightly, it is nowhere near the threat thresholds, which is why the IUCN considers it a species of least concern.🙂🙂
