What is this? The new generation Cape robin-chats couple decided to show the bird mayor of our garden that the bath is now unisex!
I have never seen two robin's bathing at the same time. One would always keep an eye out for predators while the other is bathing. But not this couple and it seems that they wanted to make a political statement!
The guy is a true gentleman, as he let's his wife bath first.
Look how respectfully he turns his back on her!
Then it was his turn and of course the lady was watching him!
A quick pop out of the bath to clear the feathers!
"The Cape robin-chat (Cossypha caffra) is a small passerine bird of the Old World flycatcher family Muscicapidae. It has a disjunct range from South Sudan to South Africa. The locally familiar and confiding species has colonized and benefited from a range of man-altered habitats, including city suburbs and farmstead woodlots".
And then the bathing sequence was repeated!
Lady first and the guy sneaked a look!
Look at those muscles as this guy lets rip!
Now a combined shaking off!
The guy sat on the edge of the bath to dry himself!
But his lady chose a spot near a nasturtium plant to sit and dry herself. Obviously in a holistic frame of mind!
"In southern Africa, the Cape robin-chat is a common species at Afromontane forest edges, in forest scrub and ravines, fynbos, karoo, plantations, gardens and parks. Most areas with dense cover with scattered trees or song posts are however suitable. In dry areas they are restricted to thickets that fringe water courses.
In southern Africa it is found from sea level up to 3,000 m where Leucosidea provides cover. It is absent from arid Karoo and Kalahari". Source
I have tried my best to bring you, the reader, suitable information about the Robin's and they are our alarm clocks, they are the last birds that we hear at night and the first in the mornings.
Of course there are many different Robin species across the world, but these are the South African ones.

O this is so cute - I wish I can have something like this in my garden, but I do not even feed the birds anymore, because my cats think I am creating a feeding ground for them
We live in a complex here and there a 5 cats maruading around, but not one will come here anymore, I bought one of those cheap hans water sprayers and after squirting a few of them in the garden, they seemed to have gotten the message to stay away lol.
Although when I am out of our place walking around with my camera some of the cats will come to me for a pat and a rub. Sort of like we are distant friends 🤣
