A Malachite sunbird came to sit on a flower right next to our car.
The first time that I could get a Malachite from my car seat.
So I waited in the car to see if other birds would come to pose for me, but I was pushing my luck and had to get out to go and search for them.
Not easy to find them but over time I had a bit of training about where to look for them and the task was to find the plants and flowers that they like.
Let's see if I was successful.
Oh yeah, this is a little Southern Double-collared sunbird and lately they are all over the place.
This one on the red flower is a Red-winged Starling.
He was feeding on the flowers of an African Coral tree.
Finally just some exercise stretches by another Malachite high up in a tree.
Normally I can get a wide variety of birds at the local nature reserve, but the place was severely damaged by the last wild fire and it is now closed to the public for repairs. I saw photos of the wrecked walkway around the dam and it was a very bad sight. So yes, it is going to take a long time for the repairs, but luckily we have many other places around that were not damaged by the fire. I just hope that not too many nests were lost at the nature reserve in the fire, as it can really affect our small bird population.
Such is life, and we just carry on as we can.
