His mom, never far away sat breathing to cool herself in the hot sun!

Sitting on an old palm tree fruit frond near the dense bush where he was born!

I asked in the previous post if anyone knew what kind of bird this one is.
Again, I will leave the revelation of his specie until the end of this post.
Come and look at this lovely little guy!

This might give you an idea what he is?

Here he was looking straight at you lol!

"Okay" he said, "nobody wants to know what I am, so I am out of here"!

Yes, the new youngster is a Cape Robin-chat (Cossypha caffra) and he was born here in our garden.
Ironically, his one parent was also born here during the Spring season of last year. Apparently the Robins, Thrushes, Cape White Eyes and Red-collared Sunbirds have been nesting here for many years, but some of the older residents here tell us that the birds have never had it so good with all of the food that Marian feeds them every day!

Here below is a source link where you can read more about these beautiful birds!

"The Cape robin-chat (Cossypha caffra) is a small passerine bird of the Old World flycatcher family Muscicapidae. It has a disjunct range from South Sudan to South Africa. The locally familiar and confiding species has colonized and benefited from a range of man-altered habitats, including city suburbs and farmstead woodlots".

"It is an accomplished songster like other robin-chats, but is rather less colorful than most, and frequents either dryer settings or higher altitudes. It forages in the proximity of cover, in the open or in fairly well-lit environments".

"Its distribution resembles that of the karoo–olive complex of thrushes, but it prefers the bracken-briar fringes of Afromontane forest and does not enter far into forest proper. It is altitudinally segregated from the red-capped robin-chat, and is less of a skulker".

Good evening Hannes,

Still struggling with the IT here. Took mr 2 hours to load a post and the most only works at every third or fourth click.

Glad that you liked the post my friend!

Cheers and thanks!

Good morning Zac,

I would prefer to have IT Problems - I'm at work since 4am to get enough done to have the weekend off without thinking of work ;)

Good afternoon Hannes,

Amazingly our signal is stronger in the rain. Very wet here today and will be until Sunday, so I am happy.

Wow! You certainly work at almost all hours my friend.
I hope that you will have some freedom this weekend!

Cheers and thanks!

Good evening Zac,

yes, at the moment I have enough to do 🤪

Yes, I could do a lot at work and now I have two days off 😀
But the weekend will be busy too: a hike tomorrow morning, then we visit the wedding of my wife's niece, but we can't join the celebration because of the lockdown restrictions. But they will visit us on Sunday, so our weekend is completely planned 😉

Good evening Hannes,

It certainly doesn't sound like you have 2 days off.
Sounds like you onlly get one hike out of it and the rest is work 😁
You have to beware of contact with others, as this virus is a sly bugger!
But I see that you are avoiding the celebrations.

Cheers and thanks!

Good afternoon Zac,

yes, we watched the ceremony from a bit behind, but due to our measures they had it outside (the sun was shining 🌞) and there has been only the closest family and friends anyway.

Hope you have a nice Sunday my friend 😊

Great photos!
Hmmm ... the bird is very similar to the redstart

Thank you kindly and I will have to have a look at the Redstart.
Robins appear all over the world, but they all look different in other countries.
I wonder if a Redstart is a specie in the Robin family!

All the young starting to come out to play, tis the season of busy gardens with birds nesting everywhere!

Looking into trees one sees so much life going on, birds coming and going all the time.

Oh yeah, early summer and the Drags are also starting to cruise the garden again.
New life all over the show and even some of Marian's veggies are starting to grow!

My garden patch is hit and miss all the time, between monkeys and bugs we seldom get very good garden produce except in herbs, enjoy watching everything else have a taste.

Oh yeah, the monkey problem that I remeber so well. We have baboons here in the mountain passes, but no monkeys.
The farmers are very particular and they spray everything to kill bugs.
Thanfully wec are far enough away not to be contaminated by the sprays and nature is normal here.

Blessings!

Sprays are needed on large scale farming, sadly don't do much good in many ways but a nation needs food. So long as the baboons stay up in the mountain passes and don't come down you are OK.

I have been shocked to see how the monkeys are taking over everywhere, up in the mountains with baboons, the North coast not something that was a problem in years gone by has now become more prevalent.

We have a serious dislike of anny poison lady Joan.
Yes, they contol it very well here, as there is no spraying when the bees are brought in for pollination, but after that then the spraying starts. With our strong winds they carry the spray wafts for miles around and many people are moaning about it.

Funny, now that you mention it, I can't remember seeeing any monkeys at the North coast.
But that was long ago when we did the Eskom towers.
They can indeed become a big problem.

Blessings!

Everywhere we have gone over the last 5 years are all adding "Monkey Proof" to windows with warnings to lock up tight when out, not something we experienced previously. No leopards or bigger cats to thin the troops out, yes fast becoming a problem!

When farmers are aware of pesticide damage to environment most will find alternative ways, I remember my dad growing up used a one week gap to spray for fruit flies only, why the timing or what he used unfortunately I do not remember.

I loved the quote! The bird looks nice with all of those dots oj the feathers!

Thank you and the quote hit the spot for me. Tomorrow is waiting, but we are so fond of clinging to yesterday!

Can you believe that all of those little dots will blend into one beautiful color? Amazing Nature!

New baby season! Great shots!

Thank you my dear friend!
Blessings!
