🦉 The common redpoll or mealy redpoll (Acanthis flammea)

📚 Acanthis in ancient Greek. mythology daughter of Autonous and sister Acanthus; when Acanthis sobbed over the murdered Acanthus, the gods turned her into a bird.
📚 flammea lat.: flamma flame, fire, fiery color flammeus

As soon as the cold starts, flocks of these birds can already be found in the forests. This is around the end of October or beginning of November. It depends on the weather in the north of the continent. It is from there that these birds fly south.

Large flocks of these birds raid birch catkins, which are very fond of gutting and getting seeds. Birds also descend to the lower tier to feast on already dried-up wormwood by that time. And as soon as spring barely begins, these birds fly north en masse.
