π¦ The long-tailed tit or long-tailed bushtit (Aegithalos caudatus)
π Aegithalos (Greek): tit
π caudatus (lat.): tailed
These charming marshmallows are found in the forests all year round, at any time of the year. Although, in the summer they are more difficult to meet, since at this time, when they are busy feeding their (or not) children, they lead a very quiet and secretive lifestyle.
They are very social and outgoing, and friendly to other bird species, to humans, and to each other. Recently I was told that their behavior also affects the rank in the hierarchy. For example, if a couple did not have offspring for any reason, or something happened, then they help feed the fledglings of other couples. This raises their social status.
This social status greatly affects survival. For example, this gives access to food when a small flock sees food in winter, and those who are higher in rank take this food first. In addition, at night, these cuties sleep snugly against each other, and those with a high rank, they sit in the middle, providing themselves with warmth from all sides.
