Feathered Friday - Some Bird Spotting from This Week

in Feathered Friends3 years ago (edited)

Here are a few birds I caught on camera for this #featheredfriday by @melinda010100

The female red-winged blackbirds are staking out spots for nests.

p4129870.jpg
They tend to put them down inside the thick reeds next to the lake. I've never actually seen one of their nests because they are so embedded in the reeds.

The male red-winged blackbirds are watching from a distance and defending their territory from the jogging humans and their dogs. The village has put up signs warning people about nesting red-winged blackbirds lol. Watch out for dive-bombing birds.

p4159922.jpg
I noticed a somewhat rare sight on the lake. Three red breasted mergansers were fishing.

p4159948.jpg
Sadly these guys have a force field around them that pushes them to the middle of the lake when they are on the edge and a photographer approaches for closer shots.

I get much better luck photographing them on the Chicago River downtown.

p4105724.jpg
They are constantly fighting over fish all day on the river to care about the humans walking by on the riverwalk.

Meanwhile back on the lake I managed to get an action shot of these mallards taking off. My camera setting was set to take landscapes to I didn't have it on a high shutter speed for motion and it ended up kind of blurry.

p4129841.jpg
This robin let me get right next to him.

p4129838.jpg
Sadly the shot where his red breast was in the sun was composed such that the stupid branch caught the camera's focus rather than the bird.
p4129839.jpg
This one focused a bit better but by then he was sharpening his beak.

p4159946.jpg
Meanwhile on the ground these robins were playing some kind of football game. Maybe they are carrying out a blitz formation as they look for worms lol.

And now we end with a common house sparrow posing on the newly blooming tree. Soon all the leaves will unfold and obscure the birds even more from my camera lens.

Happy #featheredfriday :-)

some beauties. :-)

Thanks :-) I wish the more rare birds would sit longer for a photo.

What a magnificent picture.
Everything is so perfect ...

Bright light works perfectly with my lens, though when its overcast my lens is almost worthless.

Yeah.
This is your best chance to take pictures.
I've always liked him.

These are just awesome photos of these lovely birds great shots 👍

Thanks, just have to take pictures of whatever bird crosses my path. Hopefully I can get some of the rare warblers coming around soon.

And you did a great job will be looking forward to your next lot of rare warblers comes-es 👍

Really cool photography. Keep going.
These kind of posts help us to see many birds which are rare in our native surrounding.🕊️

Thanks, just have to go out and take pictures of whatever birds might be around hoping for a nice rare one to come by.

Nice words.👍 After joining this community, my observation on birds increased a lot.

It's an endless journey learning all the new species and when they might be in your area.

Exactly.
I have a plan to take some of their photos. But it is not quite easy😅.we need patience a lot.

First photos are wow... I like them very 😇👌👌👌 and also cool post.

Gotta hunt for just the right light hitting them.

Light is the key 😇👌👌👌👌

Gorgeous bright and sharp photos!

Thanks, a nice bright spring day is the best for my lens. Any hint of clouds or evening and I get lots of noise.

Great photo! Wow, how different is the male from the female in the blackbird! Ducks are very funny with their "hairstyles".😄

Those mergansers are like punk rockers from the 80s.

That female redwing was lovely! Such nice shots of her. Liked the others as well, but those were great.

Every now and then the light and the bird lines up perfectly.
