Just a quick one tonight folks, I have been awake since 5AM, and it is now a half-hour past midnight. and my eyes are trying to close, but I was so committed to writing a post tonight, the idea of not following through is disappointing. So, for once I will try and exhibit brevity.
It was the darkest moment any of them had ever known.
The apprehension that rippled between those congregated below the grand podium was palpable. They each felt it, it danced like a crackle of electricity deep down inside them.
The situation had become so fraught with existential danger, they could not leave it one more day before convening an assembly. The general population was dumbstruck, there had not been an assembly called in many years.
For generations, they had shared the planet with the other creatures, recently though, the apex predator on their world had declared an unimaginably barbaric war against them. They were united as one, for they knew, they intrinsically knew that if action was not taken immediately, this very day they would not survive.
They had come to hear him speak, He who had been prophecized as the one great hope to help them claim their rightful place in Gaia. His name was Gull Nibor. He had convened this gathering after his sage and stoic Marshall, Gull Worc had flown many miles to warn him, in person, of the terrifying fate set to befall them.
He was the first to learn of the death fields that were being constructed to commit a heinous act of genocide against their kind.
They waited with bated breath for proceedings to begin.
First to take his place on the podium was Gull Sibi, the longtime master of ceremonies for the winged consortium, the agency charged with the protection of all of their kind. He let out a cry of cacaww to get the attention of the nervous mass gathered below.
He spoke at length about the need for unity, resolve, and fortitude for the fight that lay ahead without actually giving any detail at all about the threat itself.
All the while, those from neighboring colonies were still arriving every few minutes.
The people were eager to hear the great Gull Nibor speak and so as Sibi gave way and he finally took to the podium, those amassed below fell eerily silent.... You could hear a pin drop.
He did indeed know how to hold the attention of a captive audience, he was charismatic, stoic, and most of all, grave. He told of the dangerous predator they share this land with & explained that the HugeMans were once an ally, the crowd gasped in disbelief as they learned of the weapons that had no doubt been deployed in the areas they used to catch fish for survival to annihilate every last one of them.
He went on to relay how the HugeMans were wiping out entire species across the planet at an alarming rate. He described giant steel behemoths that sling sinister blades out to slash at birds making them fall limp and lifeless from the sky.
There could be no mistake. The accounts of the weapons was so vivid and detailed that they must be true.

What a great scribe @stevenwood and I love the story line.
These HugeMans weapons are jumping up over many landscapes here in South Africa and they are a bigger danger to the birds than the high strung electrical cables and towers.
We worked on these lines and I cannot tell you how often we found dead birds at the top of those towers. Another "win" for HugeMans in their efforts to destroy the planet.
