What's up colleagues! It's been a while since my last content, a fiber cut has left me without internet for all this time, but here I am again with a new quality post for this great community.
Today I will be sharing with all of you the resurgence of a Lenovo CPU that was completely dead, or well, maybe not dead at all, but it was abandoned for a long time. Today I will show you how I bring it back to life and give it a good cleaning maintenance to leave it in an optimal and 100% functional state. And now without further ado, let's get down to business =)
¡Que tal colegas! Ha pasado un buen tiempo desde mi último contenido, un corte de fibra me ha dejado sin internet por todo este tiempo, pero aquí estoy nuevamente con un nuevo post de calidad para esta gran comunidad.
El día de hoy estaré compartiendo con todos ustedes el resurgir de una CPU Lenovo que estaba completamente muerto, o bueno, quizás no muerto del todo, pero si estuvo abandonado por mucho tiempo. Hoy les mostraré como lo regreso a la vida y le hago un buen mantenimiento de limpieza para dejarlo en un estado óptimo y funcional al 100%. Y ahora sin más vamos al lío =)
This old school Lenovo CPU I rescued it from a warehouse where there were many things, when I looked at the case I thought it was just that, the drawer without more, but when I lifted it I could realize that it had its little things, actually not all, but its board was there, well screwed. I took it and brought it home.
Esta CPU Lenovo de la vieja escuela lo rescaté de un depósito donde había muchas cosas, cuando miré él case pensé que era solo eso, el cajón sin más, pero al levantarlo pude darme cuenta de que tenía sus cositas, en realidad no todas, pero su placa estaba ahí, bien atornillada. Lo tomé y me lo traje a casa.
When I opened it, the first thing I did was to identify the pieces it had and in the same way I also started to count what it might be missing. After looking at it carefully for a while, I realized that it only needed a hard disk, but of course, at that time I had not done any test, so I got down to work to see if it had life. I just had to put power and connect it to the monitor, at first it turned on and seemed to be fine, but I realized that it did not send video to the monitor, in this case I thought first in the ram memory, the one I had was only 1GB, I thought it could be damaged, so I used one of the ram memories of my wife's PC to test it.
Al abrirlo lo primero que hice fue identificar las piezas que tenía y del mismo modo empece a contar también lo que podía faltarle. Después de mirarlo detenidamente por un rato, me di cuenta de que solo le hacía falta un disco duro, pero claro, en ese momento no había hecho ninguna prueba, así que me puse manos a la obra para ver si tenía vida. Solo he tenido que meterle corriente y conectarlo al monitor, en el primer momento encendió y parecía estar bien, pero me di cuenta de que no mandaba video al monitor, en este caso pensé primeramente en la memoria ram, la que tenía era solo de 1GB, supuse que podía estar dañada, así que he usado una de las memorias ram de la PC de mi esposa para probarla.
When I did it, it was still not giving video and I had to try with a video card to see if it was the video input of the board that was damaged. When I placed the video card the problem persisted, so I had to take the time to review in detail the whole board, while I saw the mofes, resistors and capacitors I could realize that the CMOS YUMPE was enabled, which I found quite strange, I just moved it to disable it and tested again. When I turned it on the beautiful image appeared on the screen, at that moment I was very happy, I checked the Bios and everything was in order, it only remained to do a good cleaning and put it to work.
Cuando lo hice seguía sin dar video y me toco probar con una tarjeta de video para ver si es que era la entrada de video de la placa que estaba dañada. Cuando coloque la tarjeta de video el problema persistió, con lo cual tuve que tomarme el tiempo para revisar detalladamente toda la placa, mientras veía los mofes, resistencias y condensadores pude darme cuenta de que el YUMPE del CMOS estaba habilitado, lo cual me pareció bastante extraño, solo lo moví para deshabilitarlo y volví a probar. Al encender apareció la hermosa imagen en pantalla, en ese momento me sentí muy contento, comprobé la Bios y todo estaba en orden, solo restaba hacerle una buena limpieza y ponerla a funcionar.
Before starting with the cleaning of the board I looked for a Hard Disk that I had saved, I also looked for a CD reader, this with the idea of being able to put it in that empty socket that could be seen at first sight, that way I could give its original theme to the CPU. Once I had all the components ready, I set out to do the cleaning.
Antes de empezar con la limpieza de la placa busque un Disco Duro que tenía guardado, también busque una lectora de CD, esto con la idea de poder ponerla en ese encaje vacío que se veía a simple vista, de esa manera podía darle su temática original a la CPU. Una vez que ya tenía todos los componentes listos me dispuse hacer la limpieza.
As it is normal in any abandoned PC, it is always sure to find a lot of dirt, all the dust and dirt that was seen on the board was pretty stuck, so I had to repeatedly pass the brush through the same place to get all that dirt out, it took me a while, but in the end I could remove all the dirt from the board, then with isopropyl alcohol I started to do a deeper cleaning.
Como es normal en toda PC abandonada, siempre es seguro encontrar mucha suciedad, todo el polvo y la mugre que se veía en la placa estaba bastante pegada, así que tuve que pasar repetidas veces el pincel por el mismo sitio para lograr sacar toda esa tierra, me llevo un buen tiempo, pero al final pude remover toda la mugre de la placa, luego con alcohol isopropilico empecé hacer una limpieza más profunda.
The Chipse I also disassembled it, I realized that the factory thermal paste was completely dry and expired, so I set out to clean it with isopropyl alcohol and cotton, it took me a while to remove all that paste expired, but in the end I got it, after leaving the chipse pretty clean, I have placed a new thermal paste and reassembled it.
El Chipse también lo desmonté, me di cuenta de que la pasta térmica de fábrica estaba totalmente seca y vencida, así que me dispuse a limpiarlo con alcohol isopropolico y algodón, me costó un poco retirar toda esa pasta vencida, pero al final lo conseguí, después de dejar el chipse bastante limpio, le he colocado una pasta térmica nueva y lo volví a montar.
As for the processor, it was in good condition, it was a Dual Core 2.20GHz and although it was in good condition, I decided to change it for one a little better, it was also a Dual Core, but 3.0GHz, to tell the truth the difference was going to be noticed only a little between one and the other, but an improvement always comes in handy no matter how small it is.
En cuanto al procesador, estaba en buen estado, era un Dual Core de 2.20GHz y aunque estaba en buenas condiciones, decidí cambiarlo por uno un poco mejor, también era un Dual Core, pero 3.0GHz, a decir verdad la diferencia se iba a notar solo un poco entre uno y otro, pero una mejora siempre viene bien por mínima que sea.
On the other hand, the heatsink was also quite dirty and with a lot of dirt, when I was disassembling it I realized that it was very different from any other heatsink I had disassembled before, I could tell it was a very powerful heatsink, to tell the truth it caught my attention. After disassembling it I gave it a good cleaning, I disassembled it completely and I have left it as new, after reassembling it I decided to make the complete assembly with the new processor, I put its respective thermal paste and I have reassembled everything. I should also mention that the memory ram was good too, the problem was with the YUMPER that for some reason was in the wrong place. So this gave me the possibility to adapt another 2GB ram memory so I could have a total of 3GB. Something not less important is also that the CPU handles DDR2 technology in terms of ram memory, so it was a bit limited in that case, but still the board was quite modest, since it belongs to the legendary G41 series.
Por otra parte, el disipador de calor también estaba bastante sucio y con mucha tierra, cuando lo estaba desmontando me di cuenta que era muy diferente a cualquiera que hubiera desarmado antes, pude darme cuenta de que era un disipador muy potente, a decir verdad me llamo mucho la atención. Después de desmontarlo le di una buena limpieza, lo desarmé completamente y lo he dejado como nuevo, luego de volverlo armar me dispuse hacer la montura completa con el nuevo procesador, coloque su respectiva pasta térmica y he vuelto a ensamblar todo. Debo mencionar también que la memoría ram que traía estaba buena también, el problema era con el YUMPER que por alguna razón estaba en el sitio incorrecto. Así que esto me dio la posibilidad de adaptarle otra memoria ram de 2GB para que así pudiera tener un total de 3GB. Algo no menos importante también es que la CPU maneja tecnología DDR2 en cuantos a sus memorias ram, así que era un poco limitado en ese caso, pero aun así la placa era bastante modesta, ya que pertenece a la legendaria serie de las G41.
After having it completely ready and armed, I proceeded with the formatting, I decided to put the Windows 8.1 with 32Bits architecture, apart from the 2GB of ram and the Dual Core 3.0GHz processor, I have also put a GeForce 210 1GB video card. When I tested it I was quite surprised, the performance was quite optimal, at no time gave failures of any kind in terms of the system, I was using it for quite a while, I squeezed it to the maximum with several games, I opened the browser with more than 4 windows running and the truth is the performance was pretty good.
Después de tenerla completamente lista y armada, procedí con el formateo, decidí ponerle el Windows 8.1 con arquitectura de 32Bits, aparte de los 2GB de ram y el procesador Dual Core de 3.0GHz, también le he puesto una tarjeta de video GeForce 210 de 1GB. Cuando la probé quede bastante sorprendido, el rendimiento era bastante óptimo, en ningún momento dio fallas de ningún tipo en cuanto al sistema, la estuve usando por un buen rato, la exprimí al máximo con varios juegos, abrí el navegador con más de 4 ventanas en ejecución y la verdad el rendimiento fue bastante bueno.
As always at the end you feel that satisfaction of having achieved something great, actually I do not know how long had this CPU in that tank, I'm sure they stopped using it for that detail of YUMPE misplaced. Lucky for the CPU I found it and now I have been able to give it a new life.
Como siempre al final se siente esa satisfacción de haber logrado algo genial, en realidad no sé cuanto tiempo tenía esta CPU en ese depósito, estoy seguro de que lo dejaron de usar por ese detalle del YUMPE mal colocado. Para la suerte del CPU lo he encontrado y ahora he podido darle una nueva vida.

Honestamente hubiese conseguido la falla mucho antes si hubiera revisado primeramente la placa :V pero como soy un poco impaciente con esta cosas siempre voy directo a buscar las posibles fallas en los componentes. Es un gusto verte por acá @gorayii =) Y es así... Cuando veo un CPU en algún rincón agarrando polvo, es algo que me da como tristeza, a veces lo echan a un lado desconociendo el problema que pueda tener y por la experiencia que tengo estos problemas terminan siendo insignificantes.
Para mí siempre es gratificante poder darle una segunda oportunidad a todas esas PC de la vieja escuela. Hoy en día hay muchas cosas que todavía se pueden hacer con ellas 😎
