When Jesus finished all his words to the people who heard him [a], he went to Capernaum. 2 And the servant of a certain centurion, whom he highly esteemed [b], was sick and about to die. 3 Upon hearing about Jesus, the centurion sent some Jewish elders to him, asking him to come and save [c] his servant. 4 When they came to Jesus, they begged him insistently, saying: The centurion is worthy that you grant him this; 5 because he loves our people and it was he who built the synagogue for us. 6 Jesus was going with them, but when he was not far from the house, the centurion sent some friends, saying to him: Lord, don't bother anymore, because I am not worthy to have you come under my roof; 7 that's why I didn't even consider myself worthy to come to you, just say the [e] word and my servant [f] will be healed. 8 For I too am a man placed under authority, and I have soldiers under my command; and I say to him: «Go», and it goes; and to another: "Come," and it comes; and to my servant: "Do this," and he does it. 9 When Jesus heard this, he was amazed at him, and turning, he said to the crowd that followed him: I tell you that not even in Israel have I found such great faith. 10 And when those who had been sent returned to the house, they found the servant healthy. In this story the Roman centurion has a very sick servant, and the centurion had a lot of love for his servant and sought his healing, but, “3 When he heard about Jesus, the centurion sent some Jewish elders to him, asking him to come and save his servant.

The centurion's faith came to him when he "heard about Jesus."

When we hear the word of God, it is at that moment when our faith is activated, as it is written: "So faith comes by hearing, and hearing, by the word of God" Romans 3:17.

As soon as the centurion heard about Jesus, he sent the Jewish elders to bring Jesus and heal his servant.

What did the centurion hear about Jesus?

It is a good question, because when we hear about Jesus, the first thing that comes to mind is that Jesus performed miracles, healed the sick, cast out demons and preached the doctrine of the kingdom of heaven.

All this, surely the centurion heard him that his faith was activated and he trusted that Jesus was really the doctor par excellence that he needed so that his servant was healed.

So much was the faith of this man, that when Jesus was already near his house where the servant was, he sent other men to stop Jesus and not enter the house, because the centurion did not consider himself worthy for Jesus to enter it. This faith of the centurion amazed Jesus, who gave the word of healing from afar and the centurion's servant was healed.

The centurion's faith developed as he heard about Jesus. Similarly, our faith will only develop as we stop to hear the word of God.
