Colossians 3:2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
Affection is an emotional attachment and strong bond of love towards someone or something.
Everyone's heart is with what or who they are affectionately attached to.
Thus, in order to be eternally rewarded, the Holy Spirit admonishes us to consciously direct our affection towards things of eternal value.
Everything on earth shall become useless someday. Check out the model of cars, houses or clothes of ten years ago. The level at which earthly things depreciate shows the vanity of putting our hearts in them.
What is looking enticing today will be vanity tomorrow. Thus, let us direct our affection, love towards people, God and the kingdom.
Let us hold fast our position in Christ, not necessarily positions in government, office, church, etc (which are good ). But any position, power, friendship, relationship or career that shift our affection from eternity is not worth our attention.
Brethren, let us be wise, for the devil is consistent in his enticing strategies. Don't fall for what will have no meaning in years to come.

Dear Father, thank you for giving us the wisdom to choose eternity over the vanities of this world. Please strengthen us to say yes to you consistently and no to the enemy till the end, in Jesus name. Amen.
