A tethered horse contributes much more than a mad donkey to life. Energy is dangerous out of control; controlled energy is powerful. God disciplines us not to subdue us but rather to make us live a life of utility and blessing. He knows that an uncontrolled life is a life of unhappiness and so he puts our reins upon the uncontrolled souls so that they can transform into the "routes of righteousness," so God tries to do with us, to domesticate us, to bring our energies into proper regulation. He does in the divine world what science does in the physical universe. In order to illumine a million homes and turn industry wheels, Technology takes a Niagara River with its violent turbulence, turning it into electric fuel.
