Dunham Bridge Nights

in Lightpainters United3 years ago

With clear skies forecast this evening we took a little trip out in the dark to Dunham Bridge over the River Trent in Nottinghamshire with the intention of shooting a star trail shot. I did manage to shoot a sequence but the clouds rolled in so we grabbed an alternative.

For this shot I placed a Godox AD200 on a flash stand under the bridge and set the shutter speed to 30 seconds to grab as much of the night sky and the traffic trails rolling over the bridge. This is a two shot stack since we had to wait a while before any traffic turned up:

And this is a 74 shot stack with 30 second exposures before the clouds rolled. In hindsight, this shot needs the human element throwing in:

To process these shots you can use a program called Starstax or in my case I use Photoshop. First I open all the images as a stack, select all the images and click Lighten Blend Mode. This will stack all the images to make the light trails appear. Once you have your trails, it's a quick "Flatten Layers" command and that's job done.

About me:
I usually specialise in shooting lightpainting images but occasionally dabble in urbex and artistic model photography. I'm always on the lookout for someone to collaborate with; please don't hesitate to get in touch if you'd like to create art.
