I know where I was when you were getting high

I seem to be incapable of "normal" photography. I go out of my way to be different to the herd; I'm not sure I always succeed but rotating a camera on it's lens axis is a step in the right direction....

This is a 200ft fairground ride set up in the middle of Sheffield city centre where I rotated the camera "freehand" style at different random angles. It's not easy to get right but after a few attempts, I got something I was pleased with:

This is the famous (in Sheffield) Leadmill jazz club as probably never seen before. To make this shot, I used an indexing rotator with detents at selectable angles so you can precisely rotate the camera around the lens axis. It helps if the subject is surrounded by dark space so the whole scene doesn't overexpose. It's simply a case of working out the correct amount of time to expose for the neon sign without blowing out the surroundings and replacing the lens cap between each rotation without ending the exposure. These images are literally made in one exposure.

Doing city street walkabouts at night you get to meet some unusual characters. Whilst shooting this 4 way rotation, a drunk Chinese businessman, who didn't seem to be able to speak a word of English, was keen to see what make of camera and lens I was using. And yet another drunk homeless looking gentleman asking me for money so he could go on the fairground rides...

This was another slightly experimental shot where I focussed on a Sheffield city skyline and exposed for one half in focus and replaced the lens cap without ending the exposure. Then it's a twist of the focus ring to deliberately throw the focus off and rotate the camera 180 degrees. I then removed the lens cap briefly to expose for the bokeh:

All of the above were shot in one photographic exposure and are not Photoshop creations!

About me:
I usually specialise in shooting lightpainting images but occasionally dabble in urbex and artistic model photography. I'm always on the lookout for someone to collaborate with; please don't hesitate to get in touch if you'd like to create art.
