Lightpainting with fireworks is probably dangerous

in Lightpainters United3 years ago

I look back on some of the lightpainting sessions I've had in the dark with other ne'er do well lightpainters and models and think to myself I might have been a bit crazy to shoot with the risk of injury to myself and worse, the model. This is a post detailing my potential stupidy and note to myself never to stop being stupid!

This is top model photographer, Dean Farmer, on a recent lightpainting demonstration where I'm stood at the back with a drill attached to a pole and a firework. Dumb, really dumb! Good thing Dean is a paramedic in his daytime job!

I feel a bit mischievous when I hear the model, @inksurgeon, shout "kin 'ell" while I'm stood at the back of the frame with a loud crackling firework!

On a windy night next to an RAF base, I asked a mate to first spin the firework then turn on a continuous light source for me to practice a little zoom pulling:

And finally this is an edit of a favourite shot of mine with @fadetoblack posing on a footbridge. These aren't fireworks; it's burning fine grade steel wool spun with a drill:

About me:
I usually specialise in shooting lightpainting images but occasionally dabble in urbex and artistic model photography. I'm always on the lookout for someone to collaborate with; please don't hesitate to get in touch if you'd like to create art.
