Ordered chaos - lightpainting on Hive

in Lightpainters United2 years ago

Last night's trip out in the dark with @fadetoblack felt like a return to the old days where we were just starting out and experimenting with waving lights in the dark. Years ago we used to marvel at other lightpainters' work and wonder how in the heck they created their masterpieces. Tim and I spent ages in the dark working out the lightpainting techniques and tricks to the point where not much was a mystery to us. Last night was a return to that creative unknown but with a twist where we can add what we've learnt over the years.

Ordered chaos

This shot involved @fadetoblack waving a 144 LED individually addressable LED strip on a 1mtr wardrobe pole waved in a circular fashion. Whilst Tim was waving, I rotated the camera on it's lens axis. This was a totally unpredicatable result in that the LED strip lights were moving while the stick itself was moving while the camera was rotating!

Defocus....

This is a version of the above shot but the wavy stuff has been deliberately set out of focus to create a smooth trail rather than a defined one: The colour mix between the silhouette and the spirals is a bit off for my taste but it's one in the bag for another day.

Not ordered chaos, just chaos

During the experimental evening, we didn't always get get it right. This was very nearly there but my camera rotation counting skills were a bit mixed up. Let's just say I lost count!

Tim also got a belter of shot last night; feel free to take a look at the masterpieces he's created over the years: @fadetoblack
