A local woman (pictured above) had accidentally driven off the road and driven into a canal in the outskirts of Miami. The mage above pictures her being rescued off the top of her vehicle.

The vehicle clearly landed quite close to land and the water at this time of the year in that area is likely not exceedingly cold, so I am wondering why she had not tried to swim or wade to land on her own. There could be many reasons for that - fear (possibly fear of alligators), an injury, shock. Hard to tell. Be that as it may, there she was just clinging on to the roof of her vehicle, waiting for help. That was before the shot above was taken as it clearly shows her receiving assistance.

While the unfortunate female driver was holding on to her vehicle's roof in the water, Christiano Piquet was flying his paramotor overhead. That is his regular hobby and he likely did not plan on being a rescuer that day. But, once he saw the situation, he had landed, found a local resident who had a rope handy and volunteered to pull the woman to shore. The resident may have been very close by but most bodies of water in that area are surrounded by reeds and the woman may have gone unseen for a long time - especially if passersby were out of shouting range.

So all is well that ends well, one may say. And yes, information is key, and having your eyes peeled sometimes literally saves lives.

I think she was just lucky! Otherwise nobody could have seen her.

Maybe she can't swim? In any case, as we say, "was born in a shirt."
