Blast from the past - Rally Hong Kong-Beijing 1987

in Rally2 months ago

Hi, friends!

Today we go to the time of Group A because year 1987 was the first season after notorious Group B. Cars were much more similar to the normal road cars with the look and with the power closer to the road cars then to the beast of the powerful Group B cars because those machines were around 500bhp.

In 1987 there were also rear wheel drive cars but with the powerful engines so this gave an advantage to the front wheel drive cars but with less power.

Toyota and Ford sent their top drivers to this rally. Bjorn Waldegard drove for Toyota and Stig Blomqvist was with the works Ford but Ford was there with the Sierra 4x4 car. That was the only four wheel drive machinery in the top three finish.

Bjorn Waldegard won this rally in the Toyota Supra and the co-driver was legendary Fred Gallagher. Kenyan Mike Kirkland finished 2nd overall in the works Nissan 200SX and Stig Blomqcist finished on the final step of the podium in the Ford Sierra.

I can tell you that this rally was the pretty nice gravel rally. Here we have a full results from the finish:
