ARE YOU LIVING?

You might chuckle, wondering why I would ask such question. If you were not living, how are you able to read this?

Well, stay with me as we unfold the mystery behind this question.

I ask again, are you living? Yes, I am aware you are breathing. However, being alive is never the same as living. So many people are alive, but are only just existing. In truth, they aren’t living.

Those things you wished and dreamt you would do if you knew when death would call for you, if you aren’t doing them now, are you really living?

I have heard one too many tales of people who just slumped while actively doing one thing or the other and that was the end. When you check their history, you hear of how they were workaholics. In a social system where poverty is ever on the increase, and everyone must struggle to make ends meet, or perhaps, you simply wish for a better, more lavish lifestyle, it is understandable why one would feel the need to work so hard.

Yet, while you work, gathering the sheaves of financial value, have you ever wondered just how much of life you’re missing out on? How many rains you could have danced in, shows you could have seen just for the heck of it? The number of sunsets you could have watched, the laughter you could have shared with loved ones you never seem to have time for?

When the chips are down, are the figures that flow into your bank account at the end of the month, really worth the life you’re failing to live? Why don’t you take a moment to breathe and smell the flowers... I wonder if you could… I wish you would, so you’d see just how much of life your soul truly craves. You’ll be able to tell in the soft sigh of peace it will heave as you let yourself bask in the fullness of life.

There are some who have only spent their lives, plotting one evil scheme or the other. Betrayal, bribery, corruption, false witnessing, the list goes on and on. They exist for bringing others pain, causing them to suffer.

Some might argue that these acts bring joy to their hearts as in cases of sociopaths, psychopaths, narcissists, etcetera. However, those are well established mental illnesses that like all other illnesses, should be at the very least, managed.

I plead to ask, is life lived with the aim of only causing strife and sorrow, truly living at all? Would you really have no regrets as you close your eyes for the very last time?

For those who would not take risks either financial or emotional risk, for those too afraid of trying something new for fear of not liking it, losing, failing, being heartbroken. I’d say, show me a man who has had a perfect life with only highs, no lows, and I shall prove that that man has never lived.

DISAPPOINTMENTS AND FAILURES ARE PART OF LIFE.

If we keep holding ourselves back from experiencing life in its fullest for whatever fears we might have, are we not in true essence, failing ourselves? Invest in that business, open your heart to that friendship, go on that date, take the vacation, go on world tour, try Chinese food, heck! Jump off a chopper. LIVE!

They say as we die, our life flashes before our eyes. It is worth asking, would you be pleased with the replay? Would you wish you’d acted a better plot, or a different character? In other to avoid this moment of regrets, I believe you must open your hearts, your minds, your arms and embrace life in its fullness.

In the words of a famous, talented artist- Passenger

Life's for the living so live it,
Or you're better off dead.

No matter how desperately the dead wish to have another chance, life would ever be something they could only dream of, never achieving, never touching. No more.

LIFE IS BUT A DREAM FOR THE DEAD. Do what you can while you still have breath in you. LIVE.

Excellent question, too many chase money or making a little more especially once children arrive, we fret about the financial score.

Now waking early, take a walk during the day in a park, just smell the world and surroundings, enjoy the sunsets listening to the last call of the day by the birds. Yes when young used to love walking in the rain.

Alas when we look back after many years, one does realize just how much time in our lives have been sacrificed, be sure to enjoy what time is still available, tomorrow is never promised.

@tipu curate

I am so glad to know you understand every bit of this piece.. We rarely have time for ourselves to live because we often tend to chase money. We forget to live life to the fullest not even thinking about tomorrow. Just as you rightly said, tomorrow isn't promised, so why over work ourselves when we don't know what tomorrow holds?

We just need to start living life to the fullest.... Don't give room for regrets..

Thanks so much for your comment..

Always made sure we got away over the years into nature for short break, once back home one tends to get back into the crazy machine and we do forget to live.

You are totally right in findings, no amount of money in the world can replace living to the full.

Since qe are still breathing, we have opportunity to make our lives the best instead of behaving just like you are not living.

You may fail in different areas, and that does not mean you cannot rise up. You are living but don't live as if you are not living.
