A Sublime Sunday at home by the sea

Today's Sublime Sunday and Beautiful Sunday is of course inspired by @ace108 and @c0ff33a . It is a fun challenge and as it is only my second day back on Hive , after a break due to family illness, it's a good mellow way to post day number two.

Geraniums and petunias on the terrace

I just snapped this shot a few moments ago before sitting to write this. It's a calm cool morning here on the seaside. The house is quiet (I'm always the first to arise) and I've had my morning tea with the herons and egrets.

Honeysuckle in bloom on the pergola

I love this time of year, late June, when Summer has only just begun. The scents are wonderful. Besides my usual sea spray scents, the honeysuckle is in bloom. We have loads of the stuff, both the vining variety (which is here on one of the posts of the pergola off the terrace) and bush forms that we let grow tall as trees.

There is a sound to this time of the year as well as the bees are alight on all the honeysuckle and as you walk the old path down to the firepit, it is rimmed with the large bush honeysuckle and the buzz can be heard yards away. The sounds of early Summer.

The chicks are growing
Added to that sound, just now, is the crow of a few roosters. My latest batch of chicks, which I shared back in April have grown. In fact this pic is from 2 weeks ago and they are now even more "chicken like". As they were bought as "straight run" chicks (meaning you do not know the sex) we've come out with three roos in the mix. As they are bantams they actually are getting along quite well.

A joyful happenstance of these chicks is that the promise of them moving to my Mother in laws home has been a boon and a light to her in her struggle with her illness. She's always kept chickens but has not done so for the past 5 years or so not wanting to burden my sister in law with their care when she'd leave for the Winter to warmer climbs. Now, however, when we were coaxing her back to life in hospital , talking to her when she could not respond (nor did we know if she was even still coming back to us) We'd promise these chicks to her.

Now that she is able to sit up, learning with physical therapy to stand again, she often talks of the chickens. She is excited to have them I knew when I impulse bought them in Spring it was for a reason. They will live happily in her wonderful large and adorable chicken house and run. (I'll share pictures and video when that happy day arrives, which most like won't be until the Summer's end)

A family of geese have been raising their young on our beach this Spring and Summer.
Watching this family of Canadian geese raise their young has been a joy. I know in this pic it's hard to make them out, but I don't like to get too close and disturb them. I'm already impressed how many of their young they've managed to keep alive this long. We've many predators here from birds of prey to foxes, coyotes, mink, etc.

The geese family love their daily swim in the sea
They are fun to watch glide into the seagrass as low tide and teach their young to feed. It's hilarious when the shoals of fish are pushed in by the tide and the turns and gulls and herons and egrets are all jostling on our beach to get their treat. Mummy and Daddy goose patiently guide their young away from them, but still close enough for some treats. I've seen herons eat goslings and ducklings, so they have to be careful.

Algernon seagull with his new chum, the sea duck on the flat rock

Our rocks, being old friends for generations, have names. The spitting rock (as the split in it makes it look to be spitting when the tide is high and the waves are up.) the Flat rock (not a clever name I admit, but it is just that :flat on top.) The birds love to use it at the right tide to drop their crabs and bivalves to break for their breakfasts. Of late a little lone sea duck has taken to following Algernon seagull about.

In the mornings now, when he is on the flat rock, he always allows this little duck to perch with him. It's funny as he chases off other birds (except during mating season he'll allow his wife of choice on). I'm not sure if the duck is a Brant or maybe a long tailed duck, there are a few sea duck varieties. Tho we also get common Mallards here as well. It's funny to see that even the fresh water Geese, swans, and ducks seem to have no problem living happily on the sea as well, the saltwater seems not to bother them.

Treasures on the Rocks
As you can see, it is looking to be a #Sublimesunday and certainly a #BeautifulSunday here and thank goodness. These past weeks (months really) with my mother in laws illness and her so close to death has made us all the more look at each grain of sand and each little shell with more joy. I've always tried to enjoy the moment and the beauty of the small and simple things, but such things as this only bring such feelings home.

I hope all of you have a wonderful and #SublimeSunday and that you find a moment to enjoy the day and the beauty of wherever you are.

You took good care of the chickens.
Hope you mother recover and start to take care of them soon.

They are a joy to take care of and I'm so excited to have them for my MIL when we can get her home again, thank you for asking after her @ace108 :) We have such a loving community here on #hive

It's sooo nice to see your posts regularly again now. What a beautiful post and entry for the challenge(s). Just came back from the ocean and can't get enough of sea and nature pics. They always calm down the mind. It's pure soulfood like your posts.
Enjoy your sunday🤗💯🎶🎉👌🏼

Thank you @akida it's good to try and get back to a routine. It's still a rather tumultuous time but sometimes Hive can help be that thing to focus a scattered day. I hope you are well.
