For this weeks Show Us Your California contest by @thesocalhive I spent a 3 day weekend attending...

My Cousins Wedding!!

So last weekend I headed out to Los Angeles for my cousin Aimee's wedding. It was a three day event, and honestly the whole thing was a little intimidating at first. But my other cousin, Aimee's brother Tyler, offered to do the driving and let me stay at the Airbnb that he rented. So I had no excuses to not be there for the whole three days.

On Friday Tyler drove down from Chico and met me at my house. I got my stuff together and tossed it in the car and we hit the road headed for Los Angeles. The drive was fairly smooth. We did hit a couple traffic jams, but we didn't mind too much as we were just having fun chatting and catching up on things. We got to Aimee's house and met with her and David, her now husband. For the most part everyone was still really busy with a bunch of last minute wedding preparations. Later in the evening we all headed out for a "family dinner" where we met at an Airbnb with everyone from both families for a delicious dinner. It was fun and a great opportunity for everyone to meet. Tyler and I left the party a little early since we were staying down by the beach which was a bit of a drive, but we got to our Airbnb without to much trouble and it was real nice. There was only one bed so I had to sleep on the couch, but I didn't mind at all.

On saturday Tyler and I decided to spend the morning walking around Venice beach. We walked the boardwalk with all the vendors, artists, and musicians. We went to the skatepark and watched all the skaters for awhile as well as checking out "muscle beach". It's definitely an interesting place. After that we headed back through the city to Aimee's house for the Pool party! Besides the families there were also a bunch of their friends there and they had all kinds of drinks and a bunch of delicious tacos. It was a lot of fun and we stayed there pretty late before heading back to our Airbnb for the night.

Sunday was the big day. Wedding day. But first we spent the morning at Aimee and David's house taking all the "official" photos. Lots and lots of them. It was a bit boring, but I'm sure they will cherish all those pictures forever. After that was all done everyone headed over to the main event at "The 1909" in Topanga canyon. The location was in a really beautiful area in the canyon with huge Canyon Live Oak trees giving us shade from the heat of the sun. The ceremony was lovely. Powerful and emotional. Since David is Jewish there was lots of Hebrew that I couldn't understand, but it was quite interesting to listen to. And one of my favorite parts was that they were married in front of two of my late grandmother Marys artistic embroidered wall hangings. Her unique art has always been one of the defining things of our family and so it was really neat to see the traditions from both the families combined together. After the ceremony there was a "happy hour" where we mingled for awhile enjoying some snacks and drinks. Happy hour was followed by the official dinner which had a delicious menu. Dinner was wrapped up with some toasts and a few short speeches from some of the close friends of the bride and groom. After that the party continued with more drinking and dancing, but unfortunately since it was getting late and we still had to make the long drive back to my house we couldn't stay for the dance party. Overall it was a fun weekend and it was really great to get to see my family as well as get to meet all of the grooms family. And in conclusion I just wish Aimee and David a long and prosperous life together!
