CHESS BROTHERS LEAGUE - Season 2 "Gens una sumus": Tournament 6 Report and New Announcement 💪♟

A new participation record was reached this Sunday in the Chess Brothers League! With 40 contenders the 6th round took place, and what a way to start the last third of the league! We are very pleased with the large number of players. We extend our most sincere words of gratitude to the entire chess community that little by little has been integrating this activity and that today we see materialized all the effort and dedication present in each round, in each game, in each move.

In this opportunity we played a 7 round Swiss tournament with blitz mode 3+2, format and time control that were chosen in the weekly poll carried out via Dpoll.

As an interesting fact, the number of rounds in Swiss tournaments is a participation-based factor, with the square of the number of rounds being the maximum number of participants allowed. As we explained in another post, 7 rounds allow up to a maximum of 49 players. Our tournaments are usually around 20, 30 contenders, but seeing this large audience today, we can start considering longer tournaments, 9 rounds for example.

Let's talk a little about the results of this round:

The most remarkable thing to notice is the figure of 40 registered players, which we hope to maintain and surpass in future events. @Tungphong (blackswan21 on Lichess) ratifies his presence as the current league leader. The solid score of 6.5/7 allowed him to be crowned once again undefeated. Undoubtedly, this result ensures him a comfortable lead in the leaderboard, because as we will analyze shortly, he has created a wide gap with his immediate challenger.

In second position is @tony1294, who had quite an interesting tournament. He won 5.5 units, a result that allows him to enjoy the runner-up position alone. @Samostically, meanwhile, remains in the top 3. With 5 points, he takes the bronze and maintains his hopes of moving up in the final standings.

Let's take a closer look at the tournament statistics:

With an average rating of 1930, the 6th round could be categorized in terms of strength as fairly even, especially among the first places. We see that except for @Tungphong, the rest of the players in the top 10 have a fairly even level, this then highlights the competitiveness that has characterized the league throughout its development.

In terms of effectiveness, white dominated in 40% of the games, while black scored in 34%, and there was a modest 2% of draws, which shows how close the games were, very few of which ended in draws. The remaining percentage consisted of absences.

As you can see, the first five places do not present variations of position with respect to the table of the previous report. The notable variations in the top-10 are the rise of @vjap55 to 5th place and @fjcr to 8th, both climbing one position, displacing @lucianosky (who was absent this time) and @rosmarly.

Also noteworthy is the rise of player JMPC81 (whose Hive username we don't know) to 11th place, climbing 6 steps after participating in only 3 rounds. We also note the rise of @maciejficek, who thanks to a decent performance now has a favorable tiebreak that allows him to climb positions.

In terms of points and with only two rounds left in the season, @tungphong has accumulated 74 valuable points, 20 more than @eniolw who is in 2nd place with 54 points. In other words, the top player is almost assured of top honors as the points gap is very difficult to break in this final stage of the championship. However, we will keep watching closely, because as you know, anything can happen.

For their part, the other positions are more open to variations: @tony1294 very close with 51 points lies in wait and remains with tangible options. Likewise @samostically who with his 49 units is still in the race.

Now let's take a look at the games, let's talk about...

The draws that never happened

In blitz games it is a bit difficult to play with precision and even more so when the clock is not on your side. However, as part of the learning process, we have selected two positions in which white pieces could have achieved a draw in super complicated moments.

Position 1 (from the game @samostically vs @blackswan21)

@Samostically got a lot of advantage in the opening and played an excellent game. However, @tungphong is not an easy nut to crack. With a big flurry, the game has reached this point. Under normal conditions one could say that black has more than enough advantage to win, as the pawns are getting there and the white rook is not skilled enough to slow them down.... Or so it seems.

On move 62 white collapses, but there was a last resource that could have saved the game. Of course, it was super hard to see, so we invite you to solve this problem: White plays and draws (the solution is below).

Position 2 (from the game @rosmarly vs @JMPC81)

Once again, we have a complex position plus a dying clock: the perfect cocktail for collapse. The position in the diagram is objectively a draw. Erroneously 60. Bxe3? was played, leading to white's defeat. How should white have played to draw? (Try to solve it and compare your answer with the solution provided below).

Announcement and Rules of Round 7

1. It will take place on Lichess.org.
2. Join the Chess Brothers team.
3. Date and time: Sunday, November 28th at 19 GMT (3pm Venezuelan time).
4. Format and time control: This time we will do something more interesting. As we said in the league rules, the pairing system and time control of tournaments 5, 6, 7 and 8 will be defined by the community. You must vote for the TC and format you prefer. The poll is now open through Dpoll. Visit this article to participate in the voting. On Saturday 2021/11/20 the winning choice will be announced via an update on this post.
5. The first 10 places of each tournament accumulate 14, 12, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4 and 4 points respectively. The rest of the players get 1 point as long as they have played at least 3 games.
6. The tie-breaking system will be determined by Lichess.

Solutions to the Puzzles Above

Position 1: 62. Rb8!! was only move, where the rook achieves the necessary activity to slow down the advance of the pawns. For example: 62.... f4 63. Rb1 f3 64. Re1+ Kf4 65. Rf1 Kg3 66. Kd4! Kg2 67. Rd1 f2 68. Kxe4 and after this more or less forced sequence, White draws. A very difficult study type solution to see with scarce seconds on the clock.

Position 2: The march of the f-pawn alone was the key to achieving a draw. For example: 60. f6 e2 61. f7 e1=Q 62. f8=Q+ and White gives perpetual check. Sure, it looks simple, but in a blitz game one sometimes gets completely blinded.

LIGA DE AJEDREZ CHESS BROTHERS - Temporada 2 "Gens una sumus": Reportaje del torneo 6 y nueva convocatoria 💪♟

Un nuevo record de participación fue alcanzado este domingo en la LACB! Con 40 aspirantes se llevó a cabo la 6ta ronda, ¡y qué manera de empezar el ultimo tercio de la liga! La numerosa masa de jugadores nos contenta mucho. Extendemos nuestras más sinceras palabras de agradecimiento a toda la comunidad ajedrecista que poco a poco se ha ido integrando a esta actividad y que el día de hoy vemos materializado todo ese esfuerzo y dedicación presente en cada válida, en cada partida, en cada jugada.

En esta oportunidad se jugó bajo la modalidad suizo blitz 3+2 a 7 rondas, formato y ritmo de juego que fue elegido en la encuesta semanal llevada a cabo a traves de la dapp Dpoll.

Como dato interesante, el número de rondas en los torneos suizos es un criterio basado en la participación, siendo el cuadrado del numero de rondas el máximo de participantes permitidos. Como explicábamos en otro post, 7 rondas permiten hasta un máximo de 49 jugadores. Nuestros torneos por lo general rondan los 20, 30 contendientes, pero el día de hoy al ver esta gran audiencia ya podemos empezar a considerar torneos más largos, de 9 rondas por ejemplo.

Hablemos un poco de los resultados de esta ronda:

La característica más resaltante fue la interesante cifra de 40 jugadores inscritos, la cual esperamos mantener y superar en venideros eventos. @Tungphong (blackswan21 en Lichess) ratifica su presencia como el actual líder de la liga. El sólido marcador de 6.5/7 le permitió coronarse una vez más de forma invicta. Sin duda, este resultado le asegura una cómoda ventaja en el liderato, pues como analizaremos en breve, se ha creado una amplia brecha con su perseguidor inmediato.

En la segunda posición está @tony1294, quien tuvo un torneo bastante interesante. Se hizo con 5.5 unidades, resultado que le permite gozar del subcampeonato en solitario. @Samostically, por su parte, se mantiene entre los 3 mejores. Con 5 puntos se hace con el bronce y mantiene sus expectativas de ascenso de cara a la clasificación final.

Revisemos un poco más en detalle las estadísticas:

Con un rating promedio de 1930, la 6ta ronda se pudiera catalogar en términos de fuerza como bastante pareja, especialmente entre los primeros lugares. Vemos que salvo el caso de @Tungphong, el resto de jugadores que están entre los primeros 10 puestos cuentan con un nivel bastante parejo, esto destaca entonces la competitividad que ha caracterizado a la liga en lo largo de su desarrollo.

En términos de efectividad, las blancas tuvieron una dominancia de 40%, mientras que las negras puntuaron en el 34% de las partidas, y hubo un modesto 2% de empates, lo que muestra lo reñida que fueron las partidas, que muy pocas acabaron en tablas. El porcentaje restante consiste en partidas no jugadas.

Como se puede apreciar, los primeros cinco lugares no presentan variaciones de posición con respecto a la tabla del anterior reporte. Las variaciones notables en el top-10 son el ascenso de @vjap55 al 5to lugar y el de @fjcr al 8vo, escalando ambos una posición, desplazando a @lucianosky (quien estuvo ausente esta vez) y a @rosmarly.

También destaca el ascenso del jugador JMPC81 (de quien no conocemos su username de Hive) a la 11 posición, escalando 6 peldaños tras haber participado en solo 3 rondas. También notamos el ascenso de @maciejficek, quien gracias a un su decente performance posee ahora un desempate favorable que le permite escalar posiciones.

A lo que a cantidad de puntos se refiere y ya a tan solo dos rondas para finalizar la temporada, @tungphong acumula 74 valiosos puntos, es decir, 20 más que @eniolw quien a su vez se ubica en el 2do lugar con 54 puntos. En otras palabras, el primer jugador tiene casi asegurado los máximos honores puesto que la brecha de puntos es muy difícil de romper en esta etapa final del campeonato. Sin embargo, estaremos atentos, pues como ya sabrán cualquier cosa puede pasar.

Por su parte, los demás puestos están mas abiertos a variaciones: @tony1294 muy cerca con 51 puntos asecha y se mantiene con tangibles opciones. Igualmente @samostically quien con sus 49 unidades se mantiene en la jugada.

Ahora bien, debemos hacer un ⚠️ llamado de atención: ⚠️ Si estás participando en la liga y posees cuenta de Hive, pero tu nombre usuario de Hive no aparece en la tabla, significa que no lo conocemos. Recordemos que de acuerdo a las condiciones publicadas en el post de convocatoria, los premios solo aplicarán a aquellos jugadores que posean cuenta de Hive.

Las tablas que nunca fueron

En las partidas blitz es un poco difícil jugar con precisión y más aún cuando el reloj no está de tu lado. Sin embargo, como parte del aprendizaje, hemos extraído dos posiciones en las que las piezas blancas pudieron haber logrado el empate en momentos súper complicados.

Posición 1 (de la partida @samostically vs @blackswan21)

@Samostically logró mucha ventaja en la apertura y se hizo con un excelente juego. No obstante, @tungphong no es un hueso fácil de roer. Con una gran revuelo, la partida ha llegado a este punto. En condiciones normales se pudiera decir que las negras tienen ventaja más que suficiente para ganar, pues los peones están llegando a la meta y la torre blanca no es lo suficiente hábil para frenarlos... O eso es lo que parece.

En la jugada 62 las blancas colapsan, pero había un último recurso que podría haber salvado la partida. Claro, era súper difícil de ver, por lo que te invitamos a resolver este problema: Juegan blancas y hacen tablas (la solución la encontrarás más abajo).

Posición 2 (de la partida @rosmarly vs @JMPC81)

Una vez más, tenemos una posición compleja más un reloj agonizante: el cóctel perfecto para el colapso. La posición del diagrama es objetivamente tablas. Erróneamente fue jugado 60. Axe3?? conduciendo así a la derrota para las blancas. ¿De qué manera debieron jugar las blancas para empatar? (Intenta resolverlo y compara tu respuesta con la solución provista más abajo).

Convocatoria y condiciones técnicas del torneo 7

1. Se realizará en Lichess.org.

2. Unirse al equipo de Chess Brothers.

3. Fecha y hora: Domingo 28 de noviembre a las 19 GMT (3 pm hora de Venezuela).

4. Modalidad y ritmo: En esta oportunidad haremos algo más interesante. Como habiamos dicho en las bases de la liga, la modalidad y el ritmo de los torneos 5, 6, 7 y 8 serán definidos por la comunidad. Debes votar por el ritmo y la modalidad que prefieras. La consulta ya está abierta a través de Dpoll. Visita este artículo para que participes en la votación. Los resultados se darán a conocer cuando la publicación de la encuesta caduque

5. Los primeros 10 puestos de cada torneo acumulan 14, 12, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4 y 4 puntos respectivamente. El resto de jugadores obtienen 1 punto siempre y cuando hayan jugado por lo menos 3 partidas.

6. El sistema de desempate será el que determine Lichess.

Soluciones a los problemas planteados arriba

Posición 1: 62. Tb8!! era jugada única, donde la torre logra la actividad necesaria para frenar el avance de los peones. Por ejemplo: 62... f4 63. Tb1 f3 64. Te1+ Rf4 65. Tf1 Rg3 66. Rd4! Rg2 67. Td1 f2 68. Rxe4 y tras esta secuencia más o menos forzada, las blancas empatan. Una solución tipo estudio muy difícil de ver con escasos segundos en el reloj.

Posición 2: La marcha del peón f en solitario era la clave para lograr el empate. Por ejemplo: 60. f6 e2 61. f7 e1=D 62. f8=D+ y las blancas dan jaque perpetuo. Claro, se ve sencillo, pero en una partida blitz uno a veces se ciega completamente.
