¡Feliz día a todas las maestras y maestros de Venezuela y el mundo! El 15 de enero de cada año en Venezuela se celebra el “Día del Maestro”, su origen es un hecho histórico nacional pero eso no quita que salude a los docentes del mundo porque cualquier reconocimiento al maestro siempre será bienvenido.

Ser maestra/o es una vocación de servicio, dar a otros aquello que conoces, sabes y has aprendido pero también es afectividad damos cariño, comprensión, empatía, solidaridad, paciencia y con alguna frecuencia también damos llamadas de atención, regaños, correcciones porque como humanos lo tenemos todo.

La relación que las maestras establecemos con nuestros alumnos es muy similar a la que tenemos con nuestros hijos, independientemente, que la maestra sea madre o no, su talante materno va por delante, siempre queriendo lo mejor para sus alumnos y discriminando lo que considera más importante para ellos. En mi experiencia docente vi a los maestros trabajar de igual forma, ante ti tienes al hijo, el objetivo común es formar y no solo informar.

Esta no es una afirmación caprichosa, en estudios realizados sobre la educación venezolana se señala que una de sus características definitorias es que la convivencia se convierte en el eje central de nuestra practica, que el curriculum, toda esa cantidad de conocimientos que el niño “debe” aprender, pasa a un segundo lugar, se nos hace casi imposible ajustarnos o ceñirnos solo al aspecto netamente educativo. Siempre he agradecido que seamos así y hoy en día, si estuviese en aula, lo agradecería el triple. No quiere decir esto que no trabajemos los contenidos previstos sino que le damos mayor peso a lo que, particularmente, pensamos que es más relevante.

Las maestras y maestros en nuestra práctica diaria buscamos hacer acogedora la escuela, ofrecerle al niño un espacio de aprendizaje motivador pero también darle una oportunidad de convivencia distinta a la que posiblemente no tenga en su hogar y hablo de aquellos niños, que son muchísimos, que sufren maltrato físico o emocional en sus hogares, otros que tienen una carencias afectivas y materiales tan marcadas que su vivencia “infantil de la vida” es opacada por duras realidades. Será por eso que nos las pasamos inventando, dentro de la escuela, cómo darles un rato de esparcimiento, juego y recreación que, quizás por múltiples razones, de otra forma no lo experimentarían.

Los maestros somos muy conscientes de formar con el ejemplo y la mayoría, actuamos en consecuencia, reforzando constantemente valores como: responsabilidad, puntualidad, compromiso, justicia, equidad, igualdad, respeto; ¿Somos perfectos? NO, claro que no, sin embargo, eso está presente, es el deber ser y hacia allá tendemos a ir porque nuestra naturaleza humana, vocacional, profesional tiende hacia esos valores que son inherentes al hacer educativo y que hemos escogido como parte determinante de nuestro propósito de vida.

Ser docente en Venezuela, nunca ha sido una profesión valorada completamente ni en lo social ni en el económico, actualmente, es un acto de fe y amor. Aquellos eventos que dieron origen a la Sociedad Venezolana de Maestros, que buscaban defender los derechos laborales, a través de una lucha sindical, no existen, existe un patrono que pone sus reglas sin derecho a réplica, son muchos los derechos laborales que fueron obtenidos a través de estas luchas y que se han quedado en el camino. Sin embargo, el maestro venezolano, sigue allí.

Para ti maestra- maestro que tu aliento no se apague, los niños venezolanos, hoy más que nunca, te necesitan, que sus sonrisas y logros den calor a tus fuerzas y que tengas un ¡Feliz día del Maestro!

In my teaching experience I have seen teachers work in the same way, you have your child in front of you, the common goal is to educate and not just inform.

This is not a whimsical statement, in studies on Venezuelan education it is pointed out that one of its defining characteristics is that coexistence becomes the central axis of our practice, that the curriculum, all that amount of knowledge that the child "must" learn, takes second place, it is almost impossible for us to adjust or stick only to the purely educational aspect. I have always been grateful that we are like this and today, if I were in the classroom, I would be three times as grateful. This does not mean that we do not work on the expected contents, but that we give more weight to what we particularly think is more relevant.

In our daily practice, we teachers seek to make the school welcoming, to offer the child a motivating learning space, but also to give him/her a different opportunity to live together than the one he/she may not have at home, and I am talking about those children, who are very many, who suffer physical or emotional abuse at home, others who have such a marked lack of affective and material needs that their "childish experience of life" is overshadowed by harsh realities. Maybe that is why we spend our time inventing, within the school, how to give them a time of leisure, play and recreation that, perhaps for multiple reasons, they would not otherwise experience.

We teachers are very conscious of teaching by example and most of us act accordingly, constantly reinforcing values such as: responsibility, punctuality, commitment, justice, equity, equality, respect; Are we perfect? NO, of course not, however, that is present, it is the duty to be and that is where we tend to go because our human, vocational, professional nature tends towards those values that are inherent to education and that we have chosen as a determining part of our purpose in life.

Being a teacher in Venezuela has never been a profession fully valued either socially or economically; nowadays, it is an act of faith and love. Those events that gave rise to the Venezuelan Society of Teachers, which sought to defend labor rights through a union struggle, do not exist, there is an employer who sets its rules without the right to reply, there are many labor rights that were obtained through these struggles and that have fallen by the wayside. However, the Venezuelan teacher is still there.

For you teacher-teacher may your breath not be extinguished, Venezuelan children, today more than ever, need you, may their smiles and achievements give warmth to your strength and have a Happy Teacher's Day!
