A laboratory without walls definitely excites me (SPA/EN)

English version

The planet needs more and more of us, our love and our conscience. And of course, of our determination to be better every day. You know how to evolve, which implies that it is not necessarily simple and/or fast. The individual changes we have to take time. They arise from our development, from our yearnings and desires. Humanity is far from what it was originally.

Human beings no longer think the way we used to. We have achieved many scientific and technological advances. Many of them have brought great benefits to many areas of our lives.

Others perhaps not so much and will remember Hiroshima or any other catastrophic experience. What is clear is that the theocentric vision that was held some time ago was defeated by science with a revolutionary movement that was driven by the Protestant Reformation, among other things. That need to disseminate information and share with everyone the scriptures and get out of oppression.

Beyond philosophizing, I would like to point out how we have changed and that changes are good. Every movement and transformation, in principle, should be for the better. And the fact that some mistakes are made does not imply that we cannot correct the course.

In my post today I raise some reflections on my line of research and tell you why I decided to expand the boundaries of my laboratory.

Good Reading!

An environmental laboratory without walls

It seems unbelievable that I already have almost three years working on this thing that I am definitely passionate about and it got into my veins. It started with an idea from a friend and a "yeah, sure, count me in". Then news of the approval of resources to work on the project. This led me to the search for thesis writers and some collaborators to accompany me in this new challenge. People who believed in me and so they did. And I am very honored and grateful to all of them.

Then I had to study. Specialize a little more and launch a series of training courses to form the work team. The field trips were very hard at the beginning; then we got used to it and gained more skills.

When I saw the existence of microplastics in the sediments of the Venezuelan beaches we chose to study, I was already thinking that I had to do something. To go a little further. Not only to study the environmental part of the chemical interaction, which of course is very important, but it was also necessary to start acting, and so I have been doing it every day. Sometimes slower than others, sometimes flowing more, but the most important thing is that I have not stopped. Maybe I have taken some pauses because of misalignment or the losses that we have all had in these times of health crisis.

The point is that even that caused the walls of the lab and of my mind to expand, to grow until they burst dry. And I found myself now working at home, thinking about how to make a better space to be able to work, already one of the rooms became an office and I have a lot of vials for sampling.

Then in the field, I came up with more things. I went on to apply systematic and much more exhaustive sampling and, well, in the midst of expansion I managed to move to work in another state. There I found a lot of winning people. And I am in a co-creation joining wills and resources. Since then, a group of people who have become allies has been doing our bit, doing our best to make our oceans and seas cleaner and cleaner.

For some, it may be a wasted effort, and perhaps not relevant, but others join in and even appreciate what we do. I try to connect with the positive part by trying to do the best I can and not stop dreaming.

In this way, my laboratory has been expanding more and more. I have even talked to other colleagues and actors who want to get into this new line of research and citizen action that is being formed in the country. I think that the more people we are working with for the common good, the more we will achieve the changes that are so necessary for humanity. Therefore, I invite you to join from your spaces or radius of action.
